Excuses? Are you eating paint chips? The call was a bad one, period. Players don't fall forward after being slew-footed. It's call physics.
As for the impressive or unimpressive fashion of the game, I don't think I said anything about that. - keaner17

UIF, xXx. You can disagree. No problem.
UIF I would never get on a player for answering the Bell. It takes a lot of courage to fight.
Every time a guy who is in the line up to add a physical presence gets the call I'll assume he feels he's not going to get his ass kicked. Otherwise he's in the wrong business.
So Since we are being hypothetical. ( U assume MM was going to lose) Suppose MM accepts and wins the fight!
Gives the Isles a needed boost and we dont need any last minute heroics to pull this game out of the Crapper.
Isle werent exactly flying high yesterday at that time. They can use all the incentive they can get. That game put me to sleep yesterday.
I thought our effort was pitiful & a bit embarrassing all around for the Isles even with the win.
Especially considering the condition of Ottawa.
Ottawa was RIPE for PICKING yesterday. Had we lost it would have been inconceivable. Isles allowed Ottawa to stay in the game for way to long. It wasnt a game they should write home about. - SCLI
It's not that I expected Martin to get creamed, but even a halfway decent showing by Neil with a few shouts to his bench on his way to the penalty box...or a long fight...whatever, could have woken Ottawa up. When a team is going through the motions, and down on the scoreboard, I just don't see the benefit in giving them a reason to play.
Look at the Rangers-Sabres last night. I watched most of that game. The Rangers looked like they wanted to be anywhere but on the ice until Kaleta made a dumb play and woke them up, and the Sabres end up losing.
If a team just wants to cruise to a loss, let them. Martin's hit was perfectly fine. Neil only came over to spark his team. Like I said, if they took it up again later when the score was tied, then fine. |

Disagree, in fact I think he should drop the gloves less
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
Just what the Isles need one more player who refuses to stand up for himself
I understand where your coming from. MM could be a guy who puts up some points and plays physical.
But unless he gets some top 6 minutes and more ice time. His job is to hit, cause some havoc and fight.
I for one would love to see him get an opportunity to play some PP minutes with JT and Moulson. I think he would work wonders in the crease and pick up a lot of garbage goals.
He would be a vast improvement playing in place of KO on the 2nd line. He needs a chance to prove he can become a Clarkson or Hartnell type of player.
Who both score and drop the glove with regularity. With Capt Jack at the helm. I doubt we see it. |

NEW YORK -- The 2013 NHL Draft Lottery, to be held this year on Monday, April 29, will be the first in NHL history where all 14 clubs not qualifying for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, or the clubs that have acquired the first-round drafting positions of those non-playoff clubs, will have a chance at winning the right to the first overall selection. Under the previous lottery system, only the five teams with the fewest points in the standings had the opportunity to win the first overall selection as rules dictated no team could move up more than four spots.
The NHL Draft Lottery is a weighted system to determine the order of selection for the first 14 picks of the 2013 NHL Draft. Teams finishing with the fewest points during the regular season possess the greatest chance of winning the right to the first pick in the NHL Draft. Fourteen balls, numbered 1 to 14, are placed in a lottery machine. The machine expels four balls, forming a series of numbers. The four-digit series resulting from the expulsion of the balls is matched against a probability chart that divides the possible combinations among the 14 participating clubs.
While the top pick can now go to any of the 14 non-playoff clubs, or the team owning the rights to the first pick of a non-playoff club, the odds of winning the lottery are unchanged from previous years. The teams in the drawing are ranked in inverse order of their regular season point totals, with team one being the club with the fewest points, and team 14 being the club with the most points among those outside of the playoffs.
The likelihood of each team gaining the right to the first pick is as follows:
Team 1 25.0%
Team 2 18.8%
Team 3 14.2%
Team 4 10.7%
Team 5 8.1%
Team 6 6.2%
Team 7 4.7%
Team 8 3.6%
Team 9 2.7%
Team 10 2.1%
Team 11 1.5%
Team 12 1.1%
Team 13 0.8%
Team 14 0.5%
No club will move down more than one position as a result of the Draft Lottery. The remaining first round drafting positions are determined by the results of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
2013 NHL Draft
The 2013 NHL Draft will be held Sunday, June 30th, with all seven rounds being conducted on the same day for the first time since 2006. As previously announced, the New Jersey Devils and Prudential Center will host the event, the first NHL Draft ever held in the New York City metropolitan area.
The draft gets underway at 3 p.m. ET as James Duthie hosts live coverage in Canada on TSN direct from the draft floor along with TSN's panel of experts. RDS will present exclusive French-language coverage throughout Canada. In the U.S., NBC Sports Network presents live coverage starting at 3 p.m. ET, while NHL Network in the U.S. continues live late-round coverage starting at 8 p.m. ET.
NHL club executives, scouts and coaches will gather on the NHL Draft floor while more than 10,000 fans and 500 print, television and radio media are expected in attendance to witness the selection of the NHL’s next generation of superstars.
Recent overall No. 1 picks include Alex Ovechkin (Washington, 2004), Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh, 2005), Erik Johnson (St. Louis, 2006), Patrick Kane (Chicago, 2007), Steven Stamkos (Tampa Bay, 2008), John Tavares (NY Islanders, 2009), Taylor Hall (Edmonton, 2010), Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (Edmonton, 2011) and Nail Yakupov (Edmonton, 2012).
For more historical information and past draft selections, visit www.nhl.com/draft. Ticket distribution plans and other details pertaining to the 2013 NHL Draft will be announced at a later date.
The Philadelphia Flyers will host the 2014 NHL Draft at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. |

Both Ulstrom and Finley played physical....which is why they'll both be scratched the next game - keaner17
I really don't get the love for Finley. He is by far the biggest guy on the ice and hardly hits ANYONE. I specifically keyed on the guy b/c I was looking for something that you guys see that I don't. He stinks... can't skate, very rarely hits anyone. He doesn't stick up for guys when Neil is making everyone look like a Wuss. I just don't get it... ??!! We need Carkner back soon. |

Why? THANKFULLY he's no Konopka, MM picks & chooses the right time to drop em & the right reason. Nothing is worse for the game that 2 guys dropping the gloves just to drop em.
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
When a guy on the other team is constantly burrying your players and calling everyone out.. that is a good time to drop em. Especially after He is very responsible for the first goal. |

It was right after a big hit that Martin put on a Ottawa forward. It was borderline charge. Neil came over. Martin declined. The score was either 1-1 or 1-0 Isles so it wasnt like an inopportune time.
IMO by declineing the invitation. It opens up an opportunity for the oposing team to go to plan "B". Take a run at one of our forwards. Most likely one who wont fight back. Fortunately the game stayed close and that didnt happen.
But hockey players have long memories and I would expect it to happen in a future game.
I'm not suggesting MM go around and pick fights for no reason. Yesterday there was a reason. Part of his job is fighting. He didnt answer the call IMO. - SCLI
The score was 1-0.. and I understood why he turned it down at that time. did not want to shift momentum, but next time on the ice Neil burried 4 guys and assisted on a goal. Then he called out McDonald and Hickey... that is when you drop the damm gloves. |

It really is amazing. That was not a bad call it was the right call. Kyle Slew footed that guy with 2 Mins to play. Its nice to get 2 points in OT but 2 points in regulation is how you gain ground in the standings.
Especially since we get so many more bad bounces. Do the blackhawks complain about playing 3 games in 4 nights. No the won all 3 of them.
Does Quenville specialize in getting LUCKY BOUNCES for his team?
Maybe Hamonic shoud be used in front of the net on PP. Turns out he is good at Deflecting pucks into the net. LOL.
And no question Ullstrom, Martin and Finley were being way too physical. If you want to gain ICE time just do what KO does. Thats how you get rewarded. The fact that KO played in OT says it all. - Spartiarti
excellent post. when I saw the replay it was a blatant slew foot from Okposo. No need for that. Stupid penalty. Teams make their own bounces by outworking their opponents. Something I felt the Isles didn't do enough of yesterday. |

Amac has been God awful and i hate to say it Hamonic has been bad. Brad Boyes is a pretty consistently bad player with a decent game thrown in oocaisionally. If you think Boyes is a good player than you're not watching closely enough or as usual you need to take your homer glasses off. the only reason you constantly defend the Boyes signing is because you are have a boner for Snow. |

Boyes is amazing on the first line. His skill and hands is exactly what we needed on that line with JT. Great signing by Snow. Amac is a great defenseman and paid to score goals. His lapses are so timely and Hamonic will be a top notch defenseman. Snow is a God. Lets Go Islanders |
