Soo ... Yeah... Ummm... You'd rather wait til all contracts are coming up and we are way over cap ( like gagne situation) and we have to trade our players no junk just for cap space? - SMS4016
Nope. Get rid of Briere and the problem more than solves itself. |

I think that most fans are aware that there is a salary Cap and the issues that come with it. Pittsburgh offered Staal a very good deal. - MJL
Staal didn't leave because Pitt let him walk. I believe they offered him a very good deal as well, if I remember right.
Staal walked on his own, because he wasn't ever going to be "the guy" in Pitt behind 87 and 71 |

Pittsburgh offered him the exact deal he got in Carolina. The issue is, Pittsburgh didn't employ his brother. Eric told him, if you sign that deal, we'll never be teammates.
Had nothing to do with Crosby or Malkin. |

Yes, I agree. Staal wanted out of Pittsburgh. For whatever reason. It wasn't that Pittsburgh didn't want him or couldn't afford him. So that was a bad example that was given.

No poop. Where did you read that?
EDIT: This is the internet, so I'll offer a disclaimer: This post is not meant as a "no poop Sherlock" post. I'm actually interested because I hadn't heard that before |

Only one person could have kept Staal from making that commitment to the franchise that made him the second overall pick in 2006.
That person was his oldest brother and best friend, Eric, who plainly offered that if Jordan Staal accepted this offer there was no chance they could ever play together.
The Staal brothers were teammates with the Carolina Hurricanes the next day.

We also have two buyouts that sure as shinola will be used before the cap ever forces those guys out of town.
Also, Simmonds is under contract til 2019... |

Staal could've gotten paid in Pittsburgh. Had zero to do with money. Simmonds is already signed to a 6 year deal that starts next year. Don't need anybody to take a discount. |

Ok bad example but you get the point. G is going to get 6or 7 mil simmonds 3to 4 mill schenn around 3or 4 coots 2 to 3 plus we Will be needing kimmo replacement and whatever else. I f n g hate cap. Hate that eventually you have to move players becauUse of it |

Like I said, most fans are aware of the Salary Cap issues. A lot changes in a few years. It always does. Chances are there are going to be some moves made. Most likely some moves that none of us envision. No need to worry about that now.

That's really cool. I read this and smile because I can relate- my little brother is 4 years younger than me. We're real tight....best friends, I guess you can say. Always laugh and joke around and never once even had a semblance of "hate" to the other.
Whenever we go out and play hockey, we're a package deal. We've played on the same travel team once (he played up for Midgets) and it was one of the best experiences of my life.
So, reading this kind of hits me. I have to give it to Pittsburgh too- going out and making it happen. Also I got really pumped when we got Luke and united the Schenns. |

It rings true, and Staal never uttered a complaint in Pittsburgh, despite being behind Malkin and Crosby.

True... The whole gagne thing still bothers me. One of my favorite players move for poop. I'd Just like to be ahead of it so don't ever have to deal with that senario again. |

For starters Briere would certainly have to go... And on top of that it would probably mean Mezzy gets bought out or they buy Kimmo out. Far too much money spent on the D to still not have a true number 1. |

No such thing as being ahead of it. The Flyers are always going to be a team playing at the limit of the Cap.

Yep on Simmonds....also Kimmo's $6 million will be enough to get Giroux, Schenn, and Coots reupped even without a briere buy out. |

What you're overlooking there is that they also are going to have to replace Timonen.

Simmonds is in the first year of a six year deal. He's the last person we need to worry about re-signing. |

just speculating...along the lines of michalek back to PHO...would be somewhat of a possibility if kimmo wasn't signed for next yr. either way, big shakeup soon in TB land |
