Not sure what has been so impressive about their recent stretch of games. Winnipeg self destructed with penalties, and the Flyers PP was good and won the game. They got whooped by Toronto. Beat a disinterested Washington team. And the Flyers were lousy against Ottawa. came out slow again, played lousy in their own end. If the Flyers were playing a more talented team in that game, it would've been over in the first period.
This team needs a lot of work in a lot of areas. - MJL
At least Bryz seems to be out of his funk. But I agree, that there's still a long way to go before they're out of the woods. This next stretch of games will be very telling. Rangers, Pens, Bruins, etc. This might be the defining moment of the season. |

ditto, but in youth hockey. drilled a guy right under his chin with my blocker in a bench brawl. we were playing staten island...bunch of dirty (frank)s. just like the kids from jersey city, and ironbound (newark). - hammarby31
You can add Harrisburg to that list. |

Sorry, MJL.
I was speaking of the win column. I stated somewhere in this thread that I expected more downs then ups from the Flyers this season. Soooo, the impressed part is the fact that they are winning more then they are losing.
I know they have been sloppy. I know they have been ugly at times. John also pointed out how they can't seem to put a team away, I totally agree.
Nowhere did I say I am impressed with there overall play or that they don't need work. - ggunky
I think the bottom line is that although their record is improved. They're a talented team who is getting by on their offensive talent. But they simply are a very average team at best. Hopefully with some practice time it will improve. But they aren't very good right now. |

i agree. while it's been effective in spurts, it's predictable, and they still overplay their hand. keep it simple, but get guys moving - that's what opens up seams in the pk unit - and get the gddamn puck to the net. too much perimeter play from the half-wall to the point. - hammarby31
That 5 on 3 the other day was frustrating to watch. They spent (wasted) a lot of time passing the puck looking for the perfect play. With Hartnell and/or Simmonds in the crease area, the plan should be simple...pass or skate the puck towards the middle to collapse the triangle, dish to the half wall or point, look to shoot and crash the net or let one of the big guys clean up the garbage. It doesn't have to be a tic-tac-toe play. Garbage goals count the same as highlight reel goals. |

We don't go up there.
We had to cancel two games against Harrisburg this season. It's one thing to have a kid or two running around, it's another thing to have 6 or 7. |

agreed. too much waiting. there's tons of room out there. use the ice and get it to the net. as you say, it doesn't have to be a bang-bang play. garbage is equal to pretty in terms of the score board. |

Depends. If you're okay with them being average, then that's fine. In they want to be considered any sort of threat, I'd want at least 4 points. |

that was like playing jersey city every time. we called them the calamari brothers. they were all grown men with beards at age 14. it was a joy to skate there, especially, on frigid sunday mornings at 7 am on an outdoor rink with no lines on the ice, chain link fence for glass, and trailers for locker rooms. good times. |

Correction ... they are a offensively talented team getting by on the play of Bryzgalov. |

I think they have a lot of talent but maybe not the right mix of guys, which has been said on here before and which might be what you're saying. |

As long as they play with some consistency, I think the points will be there.
I actually think they can beat both Pittsburgh and NYR this week. That's ALWAYS a good week in my book. |

I think the rough part is I just looked at there schedule. At the end of the month, they have a week of @Pit,NYR,NYI,BOS....so they get those three in one week again just a few weeks down the line that is rough for a team trying to turn its season around |

THE HORROR! - FlyersGrace
But f'real, it doesn't matter how good your shot is, if you're telegraphing it you're only going to find the defender's legs. I get that they're trying to open up shooting lanes, but when it's just the same two guys giving each other the puck you may as well be standing still. |

Oh, if they lose both of those games, you can probably see the "Fire Lavvy" bandwagon starting to leave the parking lot.

She actually was born in Somers Point, but was raised in Pittsburgh where her family's from. She's been a Pens/Steelers fan for life, so at least she isn't a front-runner who only started caring recently. At least she cheers for the Flyers at every other game, and I've turned her into a Phillies fan. - jmatchett
Well done sir. A lot of pens fans from my neck of the woods are recent fans since Cindy came along. He's a maritimer so lots of people identify with him. I forced my gf to be a flyers fan, but she came up with the idea of naming our black lab puppy Roux (or Roux dogg) lol. So I'd say she's ok with it! |

Those teams have all been dealing with their own issues.
Boston has played 4 fewer games than the Flyers. Enjoy your condensed schedule, Bruins!
And the Rangers and Pittsburgh have had their own problems.
If the Flyers win 2 out of 3 this week, I'd be pretty happy with that. |

I think there are some holes in their lineup that everyone is aware of. But the Coach and the players can't do anything about that. Those needs are what would change the team from being a solid playoff team, to a true contender. But those needs aren't the reason why this team is very average right now in my opinion. They have the talent to be much better. Some of it is growing pains. But most of it is the teams lack of an overall game and a lack of attention to detail. |
