No it's not related at all to my personal belief that a defensive minded system is better. It's tied to my belief that you have to play well both ways, and in all 3 zones.
This Coach and his style of play, is a huge contributor to why they aren't good enough. It has always been this way with Laviolette's teams. And I've talked about it since the day he was hired.

They defense sucks ass in terms of transition and you have them continously exposed against tight checking teams. Why is that?

I think blaming the system is far too short sighted. They lose because they get outworked along the boards in the gritty game. They lost this game in the trenches as far as I am concerned. That falls on hard work.

The other reason they lose against such teams? Goaltending and stupidity are absolutely huge. If Bryzgalov makes a big save like Henrik did throughout the game they could still be in it. If the horrific line changes dont happen because of individual stupid mistakes.

Have to play defense well to transition the puck. Have to create turnover and have a neutral zone presence and layers to their checking. Hasn't been there all year. Beat the Flyers forecheck deep in your end, and you've got clear entry in the Flyers end. Cut pucks and challenge the Flyers at the blueline, and you've got odd man rushes against. It was only a matter of time until this Coach tried to unleash the hounds. This team isn't good defensively because the Coach doesn't demand it. It's all go, go, go.

It would be if they had a D-core that was NHL caliber. As of right now it is not, and the forwards are getting ass-(frank)ed along the boards every damn time.

Don't know that Grossmann isn't going to play. I don't look at every injury as if its the end of the World.

Sell what you can, buy out Bryz and Briere.
