We talked about this before. Playing defense is about a hell of a lot more then back-checking hard. They're not well Coached.

They're not well coached, unfortunately. As far as being able to spur them and motivate them in game, he's fine. But when it comes to making adjustments and limiting mistakes, there's just nothing going on.

We're not talking about a guy mis-reading on a lot of these mistakes, it's basic hockey stuff that would get an atom player a seat on the bench and a talking to.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand back to under .500 again. this is just not a very good team. they are what they are. and at this point, i couldn't care less if they fired lava. he's doing nothing to make a difference.

Bryz had a bad game but he is the main reason this team is sniffing 500....

instead of being up by 3 on the rangers, they're now trailing by 1 with the rangers having three games in hand. this is a big loss, and an totally unacceptable effort. the rangers, btw, did nothing special to win, except score on every bad self inflicted mistake the flyers made. they beat themselves.

Yes, it is go, go, go. The defense is NHL caliber. Put this defense on a team that plays the right way, with support, and checks in all 3 zones. And Coaching can and has corrected errors made by players. Especially when it's the same ones over and over.

The Flyers clearly came out in the 3rd, looking to be more aggressive. Undoubtedly done because the Coach wanted them to push to create more 5 on 5 offense.

Welp, that was pathetic. I'm really starting to think Lavy's days are numbered. Too damn many of the mistakes being made time and time again are looking more and more like bad coaching.

Not all, but an alarming percentage. One or two more games like this and he's toast.

Coburn has had a career defined by being streaky. Kimmo is aging, and there is a reason Gervais is what he is. Nobody is going to come in here and improve the players. The management has built a sack of poop team on D, and the goaltending is back to questionable.

No it's not related at all to my personal belief that a defensive minded system is better. It's tied to my belief that you have to play well both ways, and in all 3 zones.
This Coach and his style of play, is a huge contributor to why they aren't good enough. It has always been this way with Laviolette's teams. And I've talked about it since the day he was hired.

Lavy's "system" requires a lot more effort from the forwards, all game every game. It also needs speed throughout the lineup for it to be effective. We don't have the speed this year, and we're not getting the consistent high energy forecheck, and ferocious back checking every night. Bottom line is this team isn't built to play as aggressively as Lavy wants them to play, and they are simply not able to execute his game plan well on a consistent basis.

If you don't have the horses to play a certain style, at some point you have to change styles. Or you're going to lose a lot of games.
