Also I don't believe the door is completely shut on Weber - Just5
I agree. If Nashville misses the playoffs this year, its gonna be really tough for them to keep him. As it is the owners are going to have to once again reach into their personal cash to pay the 13million they have to pay him on July 1st, and that would be on top of the team certainly losing money if they miss the playoffs. |

Was another team going to offer him more than that, though? $6m seems excessive given his age, and his injuries, and the brutal turnovers he's made this season. - Feanor
For a year, I think he could've gotten $6.5m-$7m. Less on a multi-year deal. |

So wait...let me guess this straight:
A team that is apparently struggling for cash is going to pay a player $25M for one season of play, and then trade him? |

Absolutely not. All we need to do is acquire Crosby and then flip him to Nashville. - jmatchett
You can laugh at it but upcoming RFA's this summer for nashville include Hornqvist, Spaling, Halischuk, Josi, and Blum. Weber is due a ton of money this summer. They have decisions to make watch them in the standings |

Everyone is available, even Giroux, depending the package but the question is at what cost. Nashville wanted B.Schenn and Couturier and ++ for Weber. That's what Phoenix wanted for Yandle, who is a better version of Carle, so imagine the price for OEL. So now you would be left with 2nd tier guys. Is trading Couturier for Rundblad and Gormely a smart hockey trade when neither have established themselves at the NHL level?
I know the Flyers need a #1 defensemen but those players almost never move. The only one I an think of in their prime to be traded was Pronger. And the cost of Pronger to Anahiem was two top 10 prospects and two 1st rd picks, so in other words B.Schenn and Couturier and ++. Is that the price who want to pay? - psuhockey
This was the Pronger deal: Traded to Philadelphia by Anaheim with Ryan Dingle for Joffrey Lupul, Luca Sbisa, Philadelphia's 1st round choices in 2009 (later traded to Columbus - Columbus selected John Moore) and 2010 (Emerson Etem) Entry Drafts and future considerations, June 26, 2009.
That's less than B. Schenn + Couturier from a personnel standpoint.
As for Rundblad and Gormley, I'm not saying trade Couturier for one of them because I wouldn't. I would only trade him to PHX in a deal for OEL. I brought up Rundblad, Gormley and Yandle to show that they are in need of a high potential forward and not a talented young defenseman. |

Spaling, Halischuk and Blum won't cost the Preds that much. Hornqvist will get in the ballpark of $4m AAV IMO. |

Correct me if I'm wrong but they can't trade him in the same year they signed him to an offer sheet? That was my understanding? They can't trade him this season only next? Which means they have to pay him the 26 mil in sign on bonuses and the pro-rated 1 mil in salary... I didn't think there was a loophole.
I throw this at the feet of the Hockeybuzz masters cuz I could be blowing smoke here. |

Weber can not be traded, anywhere, until July 24th, 2013. He is due a $13mm bonus check July 1st. |

Homer: So Couts is at the dropzone with $13 mil of unmarked bills in a briefcase... (Snider might have wiped his butt with them, I didn't check). Be sure Weber has his WWF mask on and is ready to make the exchange at 1300 hours.

This article is so well laid out in the direction of trading Couturier that it made my stomach hurt thinking of him not being here because it makes so much sense. - shekkie
unless the package in return for coots is gangbusters and addresses long term need, there shouldn't even be a converation about him. he's 19 (or 20) and in his second season. can we not give up on our first round draft picks after 5 minutes (not directed at you) because we have a hole somewhere else or they're not a superstar after 2 years? The Flyers can send half of the salary of the players they trade for Weber, they can't cut Nashville a check for half of that $13mm
So say the Flyers traded Couturier, Coburn and 2 1st rounder for Weber. They can can assume around $3mm, because those are the contracts they traded away. |
