I enjoyed his talk about the importance of passion or inspiration or whatever in 24/7. I know it's kind of cookie cutter bullpoop, but it's kind of true. Look at what that kind of emotion did in the first round of the playoffs last year. He's made mistakes, but I've always gotten the impression he was just as much part of the team playing the game as any player on the bench. - BulliesPhan87
I joked that if/when I ever got a Grossmann jersey (which I did, in January), my next jersey would be a Laviolette one.

Kind of a chicken or the egg situation, but his coaching has become stale. The Rangers have made a science out of beating his Flyers. They're not the only ones who can see glaring weaknesses. At this point, I'd like to see a Murray type brought in to instill some defensive discipline. He may not be the coach that gets this team to the top, but they won't get there with some of these habits regardless.
But we've had some great (frank)ing times with Lavi behind the bench. I'll never forget moments like his timeout in game seven versus Boston, nor standing on the boards screaming at the Pens' coaches. - BulliesPhan87
Laviolette, overall, has done a very good job in Philly. I'd love to be proven wrong in this, because I championed the guy when he was hired. I do think he's a good coach, just isn't working here now.
He'll have a few more games to get it working. |

As a fan, I hope to whatever higher powers are receptive that he can get this team going. Logically, I don't see it happening. More than a few people spoke of coaches like Lavi having a relatively short shelf life. I think we're seeing it, unfortunately. |

He will likely have at least a few more games. But it seems like he's got some sort of philosophical aversion to playing anything but hyper-aggressive hockey. And there are time an a game/season/career where the right thing to do is play a tight checking, defensively sound game and wait for the counterattack. He seems unwilling or incapable of doing that, for whatever reason. |

It's the same with Lavi, Hitch, Carlyle, Dale Hunter, etc. The opposite is also true of player-friendly coaches like Roger Neilson, John Stevens, etc. because the inmates can run the asylum if there is not enough discipline coming from the coaching staff.
It's a fine line to tread in the middle. And it's rare as heck to get a Scotty Bowman. |

Same here. It's become rather apparent reading things here and elsewhere that Lavi may not be losing the room, but rather his job. It's not up to him to fill the roster, but he needs to get the roster he's given playing sound hockey.
As has been written here, it's too predictable and - with that - beatable.
Ugh. I hate it because I was stoked when they hired him. I wanted him above all others and 2010 was magical. - Flyskippy
I can't see them making a change mid season here. If they miss the playoffs or get murdered 1st round, he'll be axed. Right now were a win one lose one team which is which is going to have to get on a roll to make it. The real interesting part will be if we are sellers or buyers at the tdl. |

Here's the deal on last night's game in my opinion. Going into the 3rd period, the score was tied 2-2. Flyers certainly haven't played a perfect game up until that point. But the game is certainly up for grabs. There is no doubt in my mind, that the Coach told the Flyers in the intermission, that they need to ramp up the aggressivenes in the 3rd period, due to not generating enough offensive chances in the 2nd period. From the very beginning of the period, Timonen is in deep leading to a scoring chance the other way. Gustafsson is in deep attacking the puck, leading to a goal the other way. On the 2nd Nash goal, all 3 forwards are below the puck in the offensive zone, with no chance to get the puck. With the defense changing behind it. With no forward high, and nothing but free ice for the Rangers from their zone to the Flyers net. Why are the Flyers players making these aggressive ill timed moves? Because they're told to do so. Because that's how the Coach wants them to play. Be aggressive and gamble on the offensive side of the puck.
The Rangers were content to stick to their game plan, and wait for the inevitable. Which is a Flyers breakdown. Whether it's a turnover, bad pinch, lack of coverage, whatever. And that's the game. Laviolette just can't sit back and play solid Hockey and wait for a chance. you're on the road. Go into OT, and play 4 on 4. Where the team's offensive talent has a much better chance of beating the Ranger tight defense. Get atleast a point on the road, and ake your chanced for the 2nd point. That should have been the mindset of the team. Not to come out and gamble in the 3rd. - MJL
I agree, that's probably what happened but it's still just speculation and you can't pass it off as fact. |

Regardless if Lavy's job is on the line right now, I want a statement game from Giroux.
So far he's done that a few times this season, but he has to get them going. |

If we are buyers I'll be shocked. I'm seeing more of a stand mostly pat at tdl or sell and then get really agressive in the offseason and around the draft... |

If Lavi stays they will likely continue along with the same outcomes in the games the rest of the season.
Do well when they play teams that don't forecheck the crap out of them and want to play a run and gun game.
Get beaten by tight checking teams that look to play D first and capitalize off Flyers mistakes.
End up somewhere between 7th place and 10th place, mid round draft pick, incredible frustation for the fanbase.
I'm not sure what will happen if they change coaches and the system mid season.
Likely things could be even worse as they have no time to practice and adjust to a new system and they miss the play offs by a large margin. This seems more likely to me then a new coach and system change to have immediate success, especially with the big holes they have on defense and the lack of two way defense with a lot of their forwards.
So I guess if they change up now and fire Lavi, expect things to get worse in the short run. |

i thought bryz cost the flyers the game last night. it's pretty bad when 3 goals are scored along the ice right down the middle of the net. no excuse for that crap. i honestly believe i could make all 3 of those saves and i've never played goalie in any organized hockey. the 2nd and 3rd periods were vintage rangers, where they shut everything down, but i have no idea how they didn't get called for a single penalty after the 1st period. that made no goddam sense to me, they should have been called for atleast 3. also, i thought the flyers got screwed by atleast 2 bad offsides calls. just a frustrating boring game and another loss to those clowns on their home ice. i'm just glad i turned the game off before the did that corny stick raise to the crowd. everytime i see that i want to run onto the ice and beat up the whole team. |

Yeah, but they play Boston on Saturday, Buffalo on Sunday....doubt they make a move with 24 hour turnover. |
