I can't see them making a change mid season here. If they miss the playoffs or get murdered 1st round, he'll be axed. Right now were a win one lose one team which is which is going to have to get on a roll to make it. The real interesting part will be if we are sellers or buyers at the tdl. - Hextall271
If Grossmann is out for any extended period I think they are fcked.
They would be asking Gusty, Gervais to play way more minutes then they should, Kimo is playing at half speed, Coburn looks lost more times then not, and Luke Schenn while doing OK is still very young to carry off big minutes every game without making a few mistakes. |

i thought bryz cost the flyers the game last night. it's pretty bad when 3 goals are scored along the ice right down the middle of the net. no excuse for that crap. i honestly believe i could make all 3 of those saves and i've never played goalie in any organized hockey. the 2nd and 3rd periods were vintage rangers, where they shut everything down, but i have no idea how they didn't get called for a single penalty after the 1st period. that made no goddam sense to me, they should have been called for atleast 3. also, i thought the flyers got screwed by atleast 2 bad offsides calls. just a frustrating boring game and another loss to those clowns on their home ice. i'm just glad i turned the game off before the did that corny stick raise to the crowd. everytime i see that i want to run onto the ice and beat up the whole team. - flyerscup2011
Yeah, the awful line changes that allowed the odd man rushes had nothing to do with the Rangers goals. |

I agree, that's probably what happened but it's still just speculation and you can't pass it off as fact. - NickTheKid87
You're right I can't pass it off as fact. But what I can do is watch a game and see what's happening. This team is far too often on the wrong side of the puck. You can't tell me that the Flyers just have a bunch of players that are poor decision makers. It's roster wide, with few exceptions. It's the philosophy and the cultue that has been created by this Coach. And the resulting mindset that the players have as a whole. It's become their nature. |

If Lavi stays they will likely continue along with the same outcomes in the games the rest of the season.
Do well when they play teams that don't forecheck the crap out of them and want to play a run and gun game.
Get beaten by tight checking teams that look to play D first and capitalize off Flyers mistakes.
End up somewhere between 7th place and 10th place, mid round draft pick, incredible frustation for the fanbase.
I'm not sure what will happen if they change coaches and the system mid season.
Likely things could be even worse as they have no time to practice and adjust to a new system and they miss the play offs by a large margin. This seems more likely to me then a new coach and system change to have immediate success, especially with the big holes they have on defense and the lack of two way defense with a lot of their forwards.
So I guess if they change up now and fire Lavi, expect things to get worse in the short run. - Marc D
I don't expect a coaching change to do anything but I think it's a move that needs to be made at some point in the near future.

This. I was stoked when he was hired, too.
And it's not his fault alone. But the pieces aren't there, despite the efforts of the GM, and Laviolette hasn't adjusted well enough to make the new pieces work. - Jsaquella
as you posted earlier, the flyers record vs disciplined shutdown teams like NYR/NJ is abysmal. that's very telling and if we are following trends, those types of teams are winning the cups lately. add to that, the apparent lack of adjustments on a consistent basis...but also like you said, homer didn't get certain pieces. |

Bryzgalov was definitely a factor in the loss. But he didn't single handidly cost the team the game. They didn't play well overall, especially in the disastrous 3rd period. This is the first game all year where I can say that Bryzgalov was awful. |

If we are buyers I'll be shocked. I'm seeing more of a stand mostly pat at tdl or sell and then get really agressive in the offseason and around the draft... - FlyersGrace
Wouldn't shock me but the gagne acquisition flies in the face of that. Even if we can squeak in with the current roster (looks like a coin flip) it would be good for the development of the younger players to get more experience. We aren't a contender for sure unless changes are made which I would prefer to come in the offseason unless a real steal comes at the deadline. All is not lost with this team. |

I'm pretty aware that knowing that I wasn't in the dressing room, that I was speculating. But there is plenty of circumstantial evidence at the start of the 3rd period to support my speculation. |

I guess short term I expect a coaching change to make them have less success.
Long term hopefully better.
I have not seen that Lavi has been able to adjust, at least with this team, to play successfully against a team that pressures and fore checks the Flyers hard.
It is not all on the coach. Some of it is not having the right players to succeed in his system of constant pressure and attack. I think it takes a special exceptional team to have constant success in his system. With an average team the mistakes get exposed and end up as goals against.

A team that plays well in all 3 zones and checks well defensively in all 3 zones. Will always dictate play to a team that plays like the Flyers do. It's been that way forever. And isn't likely to change anytime soon. They don't allow a team to establish a consistent forecheck because they control the flow of the game. |

Ok, if u haven't played goal I can see why you might say that. Bryzgalov didn't play those beautifully but the loss was not on him. I'd give up the poke check play of I was him because he's clearly not good at it. Thing is with those plays is that a goalie needs to play the shot and trust that the d will ensure the player driving to the net can't cut to the middle. Not all on bryzgalov. The goaltender is the most important cog in the wheel that is team d... Some people believe they are the whole wheel and that's not the way the game is played. Also the line changes sucked. The Nash goal he should have stopped IMO if he's perfectly on angle. |

Pittsburgh is the one team that you don't have to worry about playing uninspired Hockey against. Think back to the recent games against the Pens.
And why have the Flyers have success against the Pens? Because the Pens have been willing to play a wide open and undisciplined game against the Flyers. The Pens have talked about it, such as after the last game. How they're aware of how the Flyers want to play. And how they need to play differently against the Flyers. |

I think this year's a wash and any coach would have only moderate success. Fire Lavy would just be par for the course. What I think is important is bringing in someone to teach the young guys defensive responsibility. |

Yes but the options for long term help are going to cost an arm and leg, or one of the core young guys.
Likely the best they could do is a vet re tread or an overpayment. Or just hold the course and maybe miss the post season.
I would like to see them hold the course and not trade away youth for once. |

on the 2nd goal, Schenn was laying on the ice waving his stick trying to block the puck which could be distracting for a goalie |
