1-16 in last 17 games vs. Rangers and Devils.
That is hard to comprehend, or accept. Despicable. - PLindbergh31
That stat is going to be mentioned in every newspaper article next week when Laviolette loses his job. |

Chicago was the better team. They had to get rid of half their team that season because they couldn't fit them all under the cap. - NickTheKid87
They were better, but not by a wide margin. Original point stands, credible goaltending in that series Flyers could have won. |

Just to change the subject for a moment, anyone have interest in Ballard?
He is constantly in Vigneau's doghouse, but is a guy who could reliably play top four minutes in Philly I think.
4.2 cap hit though, and he is signed for two more season, and is 30.
So not perfect.
But maybe he is available.

I think that Chicago team was much better then Philly that year.
It would have been a huge upset in my mind. |

I was at that last game against the Rags.
I think it was Matt Carle of all people who tied it late in the third, then the Rags just played for the shoot out, and Briere and G scored, and then Boosh stopped Jokinen (or Jokinen missed wide)
Pretty ecstatic moment. - Marc D
One of my favorite Flyer moments to be honest.
Boosh vs Hank in the shootout. They were the best at it, we were the worst. I knew we were going to lose and had practically turned off the TV to save myself the anguish. Thank god I didnt... |

I think that Chicago team was deeper than the Flyers, but they were not unbeatable. A break here and there, and we parade down Broad Street. |

Had Emery been healthy I think we win the cup that year.. I also think we see a drastically different team right now. |

My house was never quieter than when Jokinen started to slowly skate down the ice... Boosh made the save and we paraded out the door screaming. Car alarms were set off, and Im prettty sure someone tossed a midget. |

2 games with Devils next week, has a chance to be 1-18, although the Devils can't get out of their own way right now. |

Not to worry. The Flyers will be along shortly to help them out with that. |

I must've jumped six feet in the air when they won that shootout. I hate that we decide games that way, but I'll admit it doesn't get much more exciting than that. |

Even if they pulled off the game six win, I think they would have been crushed in game seven in Chicago.
But your right, it was doable.
The Flyers had a great group of forwards, and the top 4 defense were really solid.
3rd pair and goaltending not so much.
They had amazing resiliency and could come back from anything that year. |

I doubt Emery would have gotten as hot as Leighton did against Boston and Montreal. That would have been a lot to ask. Had he been available for the SCF, that's a different story. I think if Emery replaces Boucher in that Boston series, they don't come back. |

How do you explain Lavy's system working incredibly well in 2010 yet being almost ineffective in 2013? By your logic, it shouldn't matter what players are in a given system, right? Or do you just mean defensive systems? - NickTheKid87
You've misunderstood my logic then. I didn't say it doesn't matter what players you have in a given system. For instance, Ottawa could absolutely play the same system that Laviolette does here with the Flyers. The question is do they have the talent to be successful in doing it. Because all a system does, is put players in position. What the player does in that spot, is what matters. Then it becomes a matter of execution. Systems are very basic in nature. Nothing the Rangers, Chicago, Ottawa is any different then what many teams have played before them.
If two teams are playing the same system and executing the system. Chances are the team with the better talent is going to win more times then not. Just like I've often said. Players make systems work, not the other way around. Players win games, not systems. But even if you have top talent, you still have to play the right way. The Flyers are a very talented team. Doesn't really seem like it at times. |

I was a senior in high school when the Phils won the World Series in '08 and my school was a less than half full on the day of the parade. I think something like 51% of the students were absent. They didn't even count attendance that day. I was at the parade. Wouldn't have missed it for the world. |

Exactly. The system was perfect for the team they had. You can't but the group they have now in that system and expect it to work (which it doesn't). - NickTheKid87
You have it backwards. The players played the system well. The players made the system what it was. This group could absolutely play the same way. |

I remember being at the Flyers game the day after the Phillies won in '08 and that game (against the Islanders, I think) seemed very unimportant as all anyone wanted to talk about was the Phillies and the parade plans. |
