I understand what you are saying. You feel Laviolette is being tuned out right? Murray is more of a disciplinarian that holds players accountable, and is a defense first coach.

I don't know, I want to keep Laviolette. I can see an argument made either way.

- PLindbergh31

I feel that Laviolette is being tuned out to a degree, but that's not why I'm in favor of a change.

I don't see Laviolette making adjustments to a degree that is needed to get the Flyers where they need to be, now or in the future.

I fear that the young players are learning bad habits, because they're not being held accountable for them. I don't see the attention to two way play that has been a big factor for most Stanley Cup winning teams-including Laviolette's own Carolina team, with veteran two way players like Brind'Amour and Recchi playing big roles in the playoffs.

I believe a coach like Murray can start the process of breaking those bad habits and instilling discipline, and I want the next coach after him to convey those same traits.

So you are ready to fire the coach, ok... When does the GM have some accountability? Another offseason swinging for the fences, and ending up walking down the clearance aisle?
- PLindbergh31

The GM put this current team together. The farm system is empty b/c they continue to trade away their picks for years.

The coach is responsible for making adjustments and playing to the strength of his team and focusing more on the weaknesses so teams don't take advantage.

Plenty of blame to go around. You can be the best coach in the league but you still need talent and you have to get your players to play a full game.

Tampa also has a good amount of offensive talent...

Boucher's defensive scheme is getting old.

- flyer_nutter

And what is Boucher's defensive scheme? Don't see what the point is. In fact pointing out TB makes my point.

Which is why the smartest thing to do is fold the franchise.

Boucher preaches defensive play first and foremost.

Much like Murray.

The whole notion that playing d-first doesn't at all translate to decreased offensive output isn't as true as its made out to be.

I'd put the GM on notice, too.

The trouble is, the GM went out and offered massive contracts to the two best free agent defensemen on the market. Given his own history, as well as the reports that have the Flyers scouting numerous games in a given week, tells me that Holmgren is definitely trying to improve the team.

Sometimes, that is just not possible. Which is when the coach needs to adjust his gameplan to what is available.

No he doesn't. When was the last time you watched TB play.

TB is the highest scoring team in the League. Why are they in the 12th spot in the Conference?

Yep. Lot of dumb on this team. Falls on everyone, the coach, players, and front office. Obviously you can't fire the players. I would give both coach and GM the rest of this year and start of next to right the ship, if it doesn't happen bring in new guys to fill both positions.

Cause their defense is suspect and the goaltender is horrendous.

This season? Not at all.

I recall watching them last season and time and time again watching them have a hard time scoring goals, or establish any kind of pressure.

Playing that stupid 1-4 all game long.

I don't know if this is the owner putting pressure on Holmgren, or what but lack of picks certainly hurt a franchise in developing talent.

These next two games are tricky. I'm not very confident they will even manage a point.

That stupid 1-4 was a temporary thing that Boucher tried.

TB was 9th in the League in goals scored last Season. 1st in goals scored this Season.

The Flyers have been pretty good under Lavi since he got here.

The GM has done a good job putting a team together over the years.

Sometimes a team just has a down year and things don't go your way. This team has some young players and holes that need to be filled.

Stay patient. Then go crazy after the next loss.

The trouble is, that your notion of Murray isn't true.

Murray stresses defensive responsibility. But he has always adjusted his systems to fit the personnel he has on hand. When he took over Washington, he had a deep forward group that could score. His Caps team in 1991-92 was second in the NHL in goal scoring, behind the Pens. The next year, they were still in the top ten in goals, because that's the team he had.

His first year with the Flyers, they were 6th in the NHL in goals scored. The next year they were 4th. The 3rd season he coached them, they were 3rd in the NHL in goals scored.

You seem to think that he's Jacques Lemaire or something...he isn't. he stresses responsible play and discipline, but he also knows that you don't hitch a race horse to a plow

He is a defensive minded coach, who preaches that first and foremost.

If he is brought in to steer the ship. We will see. I dont see any new guy having much hope in the middle of a short season that has games almost every night.

If last nights loss was against Carolina, or Winnipeg or something, I could handle it. I'm sick of losing to the Rangers and Devils. I can't watch it anymore. Every game is the same.

I have no faith in the current coach to do so. I have some faith in the GM, which is why I'm not calling for a change there, yet.
