Laviolette's record against NJ and NYR over this season and last, counting playoffs is 4-17-1. I haven't seen an ability to adjust to teams that play a certain style for an extended period of time.
Lindy Ruff, despite his longevity in Buffalo isn't a good choice IMO. Murray(and Paddock) are good teaching coaches, and that's what they need. Don't forget, Murray has had top level offensive talent excel for him-Lindros led the NHL in scoring under Murray, and LeClair had 2 50 goal seasons while he was the coach.
People seem to feel Murray is Jacques Lemaire. He's not. He's a guy that adjusts his style to what he has on hand. - Jsaquella

Things have changed since the summer and I honestly believe that Holmgren and the Flyers thought that they could get Weber for a boat load of cash and not players. If they could have realistically traded Couturier and Schenn for Weber or something like it, they would probably to it.
To say "they wouldn't trade Couturier/Schenn for Weber so they won't trade him for X player" is a moot argument. - NickTheKid87
While I agree that the situation and variables have changed, the Flyers know that they cannot afford to lose too many young core pieces. Really, what would the Flyers do for their centers in the next 3-5 years... Sure, you try and sign guys if you trade both Couts and Schenn, but what if they can't? Do you trust a Danny B. and Claude duo down the middle with a young Laughton? I don't at all.
My basic point is that I'm assuming it's going to take the moon for Holmgren to move them both. And all this Yandle talk is actually making me sick to my stomach... He is NOT a guy the Flyers should even be looking at, AT ALL. Wrong type of talent for this team. |

See here's the thing, Anaheim is the team that can't re-sign him. If he gets traded here, the Flyers could re-sign him. Same applies to other teams. So Perry is not necessarily a rental for every team. - NickTheKid87
The risk of keeping him anywhere is very small. They were talking about this on TSN...He has the same agents as sutter and parise...believe me he will test the market..At that price i dont want him...someone will give him a max deal. |

I think that Meh generally sums things up. People were unhappy with the summer, then the early enthusiasm after the lockout subsided with the up and down play.
It's a good mix for apathy - Jsaquella
The weird part of it is I'm still compelled to tune into the games, and I obviously keep farting around on the hockeybuzz, but there's a background disinterest to it all. I can't even get super upset about a loss like last night, and that was rather frustrating to watch. |

I would like the Flyers to draft Darnell Nurse if possible for 2 reasons:
1) He has been compared to Chris Pronger
2) He is Donovan McNabb's nephew - NickTheKid87
He's already got a foot in the door with the complainiac sphere of influence in this city, he could fill in where Carle Carter left off |

Holmgren has repeatedly said that he's not trading from the young core.
We'll see if it holds true -- because things change -- but I have faith that he won't make a panic trade of that magnitude. - bradleyc4

I think they'll do something minor, like pick up another defenseman. |

Yandle would be fine if his price tag wasn't sky high.
I really think that if Holmgren didn't believe Nashville couldn't match the Weber OS, he would have offered more for Weber. |

I can't stand the mediocrity. If they are going to miss the playoffs, then just tank it up and get on with it. If they are going to get there, string more than two great games in a row. This bad one game, good one game junk is annoying. |

It's frustrating when they lose, especially when they pissed away a game they could have won had they simply avoided dumb mistakes.
It's hard to sustain enthusiasm for dumb, uninspired play |

I think the team that ends up trading for him (if he's traded) will do so with the plan of re-signing him and I think they'd do everything in their power to make it happen. This is why I see him heading to a big market and not a small one. |

I'd be fine with Yandle the player. It's the reported cost that makes him unattractive.
He's not a real number one guy. He's a very good offensive defenseman, but he's not a great two way guy. He'd absolutely help in some areas, though. Trouble is, Phoenix seems to want the kind of return that a stud defenseman would get. |

Stick to the patchwork plan. No panic moves. See how it plays out. |

I would like to go the route of getting Rundblad or another young dman like him. We already have a good young core of forwards so might as well try to add a young dman as well. |
