Yea, speaking as an outsider I just don't see enough talent on that roster without Parise and now an ailing aged goaltending duo.
Systems only get you so far which is now becoming evident. - BuffaloHardHat
Yeah the Kings were "done" two or three weeks ago. Not so much anymore. Quick was cold but he got it back. The plane is spluttering but once the engine kicks back in...
NJ's always been a mega-streaky team. They'll lose one or two more and then go on a 10 game swing where they go 8-1-1. I still got my balloons prepped, hoping they get a real offensive defenseman that'll make their offense a lot more dynamic. |

over 6 games but yet the devils are still in a playoff position so really are you that accurate? - dmarsden2988
Give it a bit more time.
Look all I am saying is that Jersey is not good enough in my opinion.
So what? Who am I but some middle aged man posting on hockeybuzz?
They need more roster talent and they need to address that goaltending situation very very soon.
Take my opinion FWIW.
System's can only take you so far. |

You'll like TKO. He busts his ass, and will do anything that's asked of him. He'll crash the net hard, finish checks, and generally make life tough on the opposition. Doesn't win many fights, but he'll stand up for a teammate if called upon. |

Devils roster does not have the talent that the Kings do, not by a longshot.
I don't even know why I replied to that to be honest.
Ciao ciao for now. |

We need toughness, not necessarily win fights.
Barch or Cam J (If still around) can win fights.
Looking forward to seeing TKO! |

Roger Mussa: Breaking News!!! Devils claim... Tom Kostopoulos??? Who? - Devils Advocate
Kostopoulos isn't as much of a fighter as he is a fourth line role player.
He got the nickname Nonstopoulos for his work ethic. At this point, he's an upgrade over Janssen and he will give us a hard-working reliable shift on the fourth line. I can't really complain there, and it allows Bernier to play third line minutes or more.

Add to that, the ENTIRE team is slumping.
Kovalchuk, Elias, Henrique, Clarkson, and Zajac haven't done poop since Pittsburgh. Zajac hasn't done poop all year. When your top five offensive players aren't playing well and your goalie is shaky, it's a recipe for disaster.
The last few games back to Winnipeg, we definitely played winnable games. We played well enough to win, but just had no finish on the offensive end, and lackluster goaltending on the defensive end.
The optimism is that our top five forwards are not going to slump the entire season, eventually one or more of them will break out, and we will enjoy some wins. |

Kopitar is certainly a better all around player than Vanek. With the way Quick was last year, he is the better goalie. |

My % is higher than Ek's though
I am pretty damned accurate with my Jersey prediction though.

When people talk about a team being eliminated from the playoffs by February, it’s not usually in a season that started in January. |

My prediction was about their lack of scoring after they lost Parise. They are 12th in the conference in scoring. Only a mere 4 goals from being dead last.
I also said that their aging goaltending would become a problem in a sprint to the Cup season, and that is becoming more and more clear as well.
Over 40 goaltender with back problems is not what you should be hanging your playoff hopes on.
I'm out. |

well thats because you think every sabre is better than every other player, your entitled to your opinion, but you would think if you had better players than the kings who won the cup then you would at least make the playoffs
what has miller done in the playoffs? quick has a ring and didnt he win the conn?
what makes vanek better than kopi for that matter?
and where did anyone compare the devils to the kings? your the one who brought that up....... |

This guy is only going to play on the 4th line when there are injuries. Come playoff time these "tough" guys need to be scratched. We have a great 4th line in CBGB. It is Lou's job to improve that top line so that line can remain intact. - Rseen
Nope, you've got TKO all wrong. He isn't a fighter. He's a warrior. He will sacrifice himself at any opportunity to help his team and teammates. He's not the kind of guy you sit in the playoffs. He's the kind of guy you rely on.
I would have loved him to come back to Montreal and replace a guy like Armstrong. |

As a side note, I wonder how pissed off the Pens are today. They obviously had a plan for TKO on the team. |

Ponikarovaky-Zajac/Henrique-Kostopolous

If kostopoilos is as hard working as advertised then he could be ok on the 3rd. Heck it could be a decent checking line maybe. The 3rd and 4th lines could split time, like the 1st and 2nd lines split time. Unless we make a trade, no room for butler, Matteau, Harrold, Barch, Janssen... But that's ok as these 12 better fit this team... We've now made 3 trades to get it this way, hard to imagine we trade for a top 6 LW. I think Lou acquired these forwards and these are the 12/13 were going to be making lines out of to fight for a cup. Maybe Zubrus-Loktionov will work well and problem solved. I'm still not sold on Loktionov being the answer over Henrique, but if he can keep the intensity up then u never know. Too bad for Tedenby and josefson. A bit of a letdown. It may be time to add them to the Bergfors pile of discarded Swedes soon.stream of comsciousness over. |

never break up that line. If its putting in 4+ goals in a 7 game series, i wouldn't touch it. |
