Or better yet, put enough effort in to look like you are trying, but more often than naught, make sure you lose that battle.

He play Briere 15 minutes a night, watch him float around and not play defense. Rinaldo makes things happen, has 2 points. Only plays 7 minutes, sounds like a coach who knows his players.

If we all can see it then why can't the coach or management?

Got me. Why couldn't the coach recognize he didn't have the defensemen to run his highwire attack system. He had a full summer and 6 months of lockout. He had that long to figure out how to beat the Rangers and Devils, but couldn't manage that, either.

But no, it's the heartless players, for sure.

People like to ignore that after the Cup run, when the Hurricanes start losing a lot of the veterans who helped them win it, Laviolette missed the playoffs three straight years.

We've seen the inability to adjust to the Devils and Rangers, yet we somehow expect the coach to adjust his system when he doesn't have ideal pieces to run it.

This rivalry is something else. The games are fantastic but when the games are done no fans, neither coach and none of the players are happy with them.
