Getzlaf is a force when he's healthy. Over a point per game player easily. Trouble is, he hasn't been overly healthy the last few years. He played all 82 games last year but only had 57 points which is way below his average production. Makes me think something was still lingering. |

He is the type of big centerman that Bobby Clarke would have paid $$$ back in the no cap days. |

I guess I'd be a lousy GM. I just wouldn't sink that kind of cap hit into a forward who has never scored more than 25 goals. I mean Crosby is getting 8.7 mil per. Getzlaf would be a nice addition to any team, but he shouldn't be getting paid close to what crosby is getting, especially since the last CBA deal was supposed to (once again) reign in player contracts. |

So twitter is reporting that Couts is centering a line (4th line?) with Rinaldo and Talbot,
and Gus is paired with Meszy on D at practice today.
Zolnierczyk back to ADK to make room for Meszy.
interesting |

Crosby took a big discount on his deal. I expect Malkin to get way more. |

About (frank)ing time. I've been harping for weeks now that Lavi should be using Giroux, Briere, Schenn, Couts as his centers. Hopefully he has followed my advice to a T (assuming he reads Flyersbuzz here for all his ideas). |

The third line had Read at center in practice today (if media is correct). Fedotenko was on wing with Gagne. Sorry |

I don't like it much either, but honestly, Briere is useless on the wing. Maybe having him back at center can re-jolt the team and give us some of what we saw last year as a team back. |

I think I like it, because Couts needs to get some confidence back.
Maybe playing him in a well defined role as the checking line center, and on the PK would help him right now. |

with some snarl to his game.

Agreed...I think he is feeling way too much pressure to do things offensively. Let him be a 4th line checking/shut down center and gain some confidence! |

I supported the "ginger line" as well. In the future though, I'd like to see the Flyers move Voracek to the second line with Schenn and get a player sort of like Kunitz is to Crosby to play with Hartsy and G. My dream would be to get Patric Hornqvist. - NickTheKid87
I still think the other teams snicker if we seriously call them the "Ginger Line"...
A funny side note, I was flipping channels the other night and peeked in on the re-runs of the carnival and I saw a Hartnell jersey with his hair. Then she turned around and I was like OMG! Definately not Hartnell with that chest. But thinking back on it if I had Hartnell's hair I'd buy his jersey too.... |

I think for him to grow offensively, he needs to be playing with offensive minded players. Let him play with Gagne and Read consistently.
I just think he's being handled wrong. We know he can play defense so let him shoulder more offensive responsibilities. The season is already effed. |

I think he could do well with Gagne.
Those two could be a very good PK pair. |

I get the intangibles beyond goals/assists (of which he generates a lot)/points. That is just a lot to sink into one forward in the cap era. If there was no cap, and there was a chance he'd sign in Philly I'd help Holmer load the brinks truck for the guy. |

I understand moving Couturier to the 4th line because he's been ineffective between Gagne and whomever else, but at the same time, not sure I see how that builds his confidence.
It's a questionable call, and I hope it's not a prelude to a stupid trade, where a kid with potential gets traded because the current coach hasn't got a clue where to use him. |
