i'm looking to pile up assets for a trade. this team is trending poorly on d and in goal. right now, i'm ok bringing bryz back, but the d needs 2 solid additions and kimmo has dipped below the equator. - isaiah520
Ok I got u there. It is a nice plan but you know he doesn't want to go anywhere. Unless he wants a cup run |

If the Flyers would ever think about trading Simmonds, we'd be glad to take him off your hands. He's still young and plays a brand of hockey we lack on our roster. |

Agreed. However I dont think we'll be able to move him tho. I would move him for a 2nd rounder in a heart beat if I could. He's driving me nuts. - hereticpride
would he go to STL? they seem to have the cap space even though a lot of people need to get paid. BOS? ference is a UFA nxt yr, so maybe....trying to think outside the box. flyers need a shake up connected to a plan. |

I'm not even sure he would waive if asked. |

all i'm saying is, i'd be prepared to do so if the plyoffs are clearly out of reach by the TDL |

If Briere thought the contending team he was being traded to would buy him out after the season he'd be more willing to go. Might lesson the return, but something is better than nothing. He's gone after this year, No doubt. |

no doubt about briere. my comments are actually about kimmo, who i'd move if we were DOA by the TDL. obviously, another NMC situation... |

I don't see Timmo being traded. He would've been more valuable to another team with no next year on the contract. |

it may come to that...
BTW, i'm not averse to moving kimmo, if he is open to it, if this thing really goes south. maybe a contender w/ cap space wants him for 2nd pair duty...playing like a 3rd pairing guy right now. - isaiah520
If the Flyers had any thought of trading Timonen. They wouldn't have re-signed him.

Crosby took a big discount on his deal. I expect Malkin to get way more. - NickTheKid87

if the team falls out of the plyoff race, some unforeseen options may be on the table. this org is full of surprises and rigid thinking will leave you baffled when it comes to homer. |

I'd take Briere on the Pens for a low cap hit. He could be used on Crosby's line for sure. - Orpik44
yeah but he doesnt have that at all haha i also just wouldnt really want him the more i think about it. the pens need guys that have at least a slight desire/ability to play two way hockey. they have enough already that dont haha now if the flyers ever wanted to move simmonds, (not that i can think of a reason they would) id be willing to move one of those d prospects |

I hope you're right, and they do trade Timonen. But I don't see it. Even if they do fall out of playoffs. I'm quite sure that Holmgren knew missing the playoffs was a possibility when he re-signed him. I think if he had any thoughts in trading him, he wouldn't have re-signed him this soon.

Stolarz looking good, only the one semi-weak goal. London up 3-1, game almost over. |

3-2 London now. Nothing Stolarz could do on the second goal, broken play no chance. |

Great piece with photos describing the team wide breakdown on the 4th Rags goal the other night. Recommended.
http://www.broadstreethoc...-the-line-change-to-blame - Marc D
Good breakdown, and I agree with almost all of it (and the captions are great Marc).
I would add two things. One is that while agreeing that the poor play by the forwards caused the odd man rush, Schenn still CAN NOT change there. As the author points out, he has the whole play in front of him. He can see that the Flyers are nowhere near the puck, and are not likely to spend any time on the forecheck. He can see that the Flyer forwards are all flat-footed at the line. He has to know that is not the right time to change. He has to wait it out and hope for a better opportunity.
The second is that even if he does try to change (which he obviously did), the coaches should be screaming at him to keep his butt on the ice and not try to change there. Somebody on that bench is supposed to be coaching the D, and paying attention.
So while I agree with everything the author says about the forward play, the poor read by Timonen, and the funny captions, I still don't give Schenn a pass for the poor change. He, or the coaches, and preferably both, still have to realize that play is not one on which the far side D man can change. |

If the Flyers play to their current trend they'll have early picks in each rd except the 4th(trade for Gagne). Good chips with a good amount of NFL ready young forwards Wellwood, McGinn... Interesting. |

only prob is that they are not high value assets like couts and schenn. perhaps laughton, i dunno. this is why gathering more assets should be a goal. |

The way McGinn hits, I could see him transitioning to the NFL, but not Wellwood.

I personally don't see a problem with the change. He was off the ice in plenty of time. And Coaches aren't going to tell a player on the ice not to change. That just doesn't happen. That leads to confusion and could lead to a too many men on the ice penalty. Coaches just tell who is next up. I really don't blame Timonen either. He was caught in a tough spot. It really comes down to the forwards on the play in my opinion. They hung the defenseman out to dry again. |

We'll agree to disagree then. Schenn has to know that play is not right for a change when he's on the far side. Hopefully that's something he learns as he gets a little more experience.
Either way, I do agree that the primary failure on that play is with the forwards, as are most of the issues with this team. Well, that and the coaches for telling them to play the way they do. |

Very disappointed in last night's game. I was happy to see Bryz get pulled when he did but I was really hoping Laviolette was gonna rip the team and then start Bryz again in the third. It never happened and in my opinion that start to the third was pathetic by all six players on the ice at the time.
What I really would like to see is more balance to both power play units. I don't care how many goals Hartnell scored last season, it's a brand new season in an area he needs to improve if he is going to be on the power play. Get a net presence for both units. Taking away the goalie's vision has always been key to the flyers success. Right now Simmonds is the man with or without Hartnell's help. |
