There's no top defenseman in free agency. Cap space is needed, but they'll have to move assets to get one, or throw another offer sheet out - Jsaquella
I don't pretend to have an answer on this. I'd be fine with sending a forward and high pick if we have to. They are at a premium as you say though. |

Hope he's ready. One crunch from that ape lucic and he's back on the shelf. He pairs with Gus. I'm really liking Gus back there, and if we roll with those six, its not too bad IMO. - Hextall271
The team has been giving the green light lately to players who originally were slated to be out a while longer. It seems like a dangerous path to take and reeks of desperation. |

Nope, just an opportunity to be creative.
Rather than trading Sean Couturier in a package to land Pietrangelo, why not see if a lesser package can get a David Rundblad?

There's still there options out there, too
As I was just saying to Skip, maybe OEL or Pietrangelo is too expensive. Maybe the demanded price for a guy like Yandle is too high. So look at a guy like Rundblad or Ian Cole. |

I Read you loud and clear. It could be detrimental to the entire Timonen to rush players back sooner, just because staying out might show a lack of Hartnell. It could end up hurting the whole roster, resulting in another Meszaros of a season - which seems to occur time and Tye McGinn.

I get ya, just don't have access to my sarcasm gif on my phone. All bets are off now. I'd rather have a mini season be a failure than let this languish into next year. It's mostly frustration talking, but there it is.
Last game was too much like Game 6 of 2009 for my liking. |

The Flyers brass were always attracted to bright shiny objects, like moths to a flame. They take too much time too often pursuing someone out of their reach. and lose an opportunity to pick up a very capable player instead. Or worse, hit what they consider the home run and rip apart their future. |

Maybe it's the nice weather messing with my head, but I'm cautiously optimistic right now.. feeling a 3-2 flyers win. |

They had the same in Ken Hitchcock. In fact, Hitch had been more successful than Laviolette.
You're asking organization questions. I have stated, several times that the Flyers biggest organization issue is that they chase other teams too often. They get beat by the Devils, they try to ape the Devils, to be physical and strong on defense. They fall to the Sabres, and they have to get faster, speedier. They lose to the Hawks and it's a sign that you can go cheap on the goalie as long as you have firepower. They lose to Boston and Boom! They need a big money goalie. Now they lose to NJ and again, they want to ape what the Devils are doing.
I want to do what the Devils do. Play a disciplined system that can be picked up and handled by any player willing to work hard and play with discipline.
The Devils never shied away from guys with reps as one way offensive players. they added guys like Mogilny, Richer, Kovalchuk and Zidlicky , but got them to buy into what they were doing and held them accountable.
The Devils have been successful with many different coaches because they only hire guys that work with the organization structure and are willing to adjust when needed, rather than make wholesale organization changes as soon as they lose a playoff round.
But as far as the coaching goes, Laviolette is so married to his system that he can't adapt. - Jsaquella
Great comment. Got to thinking about all the teams in the league and which team presented a profile suited to Flyer personnel. The answer, for me, was Montreal. Very good speed in all zones, go hard to the net, play thre body but make it secondary to speed. |

Sort of. The Habs have a lot more mobility on the blueline, though |

if there was ever a season for a fail, it would be this one. in a blink it'll be over and homer gets a redo or a pink slip. no squandering young assets to get swept in 4 gms. |
