Who would they be giving up to get Campbell? - MJL
I think Florida moves Campbell for a 2nd round pick. He carries a huge salary and Florida has a need to move $000. Next year Holmgren would have to make some moves in regard to the blue line cap hit, but Campbell has a few good years left and Holmgren has been pretty good at avoiding cap traps.

Campbell is just Spatso's #1 defenseman flavor of the day. Every day he posts another defenseman that the Flyers are going to get. Yesterday it was Doughty.
And Campbell wouldn't be a rental, as he has 3 more years on his deal after this year. - MJL
Now you know my Doughty discussion was purely fanciful and I labeled it as (an example only). The point I was making was that OEL would come with a trade price that would be Doughty like.
The Campbell discussion is entirely different. We know he is being shopped. We know the trade price is easily doable for a team like the Flyers. And, we know Holmgren has been wickedly efficient in all matters pertaining to the cap.
So, if Campbell is going to be moved, why not the Flyers?

Because Homer already locked up Timonen for next year at $6 million when there was no reason for him to do that so early in the season. |

That does seem to be an unforced error. At the time, I wondered if he had an out.
He is over 35, it is a one year deal, if he retires can the contract not be vacated? |

If I'm Danny, I'm not going anywhere. Just because JR moved out of the way for Forsberg doesn't mean that everyone is so magnanimous. The team on the ice today is about as complete as we have had most of the season. This team isn't even as good as last year, so I don't know why expectations are so high. If this is as bad as it gets for the Flyers and we can make adjustments this offseason, I will take this step back to move forward. This team is a #1 D Man away and a top 6 winger from being real good. And sorry, I love Gagne, but Kubes and Gagne and even McGinn or Harry Z aren't going to get it done. - section32
If i'm danny, i realize i'm getting bought out nxt yr, so if they sent him to a real cup contender, it's a win/win.... |

There are othef variables as well. Like his family and the new contract he would get from another team after being bought out. But sweet sassy molassy do I hope he agrees to waive. |

Rather look at other options. Don't want that cap hit for the next three years. |

I think it costs more then a 2nd round pick. And the Flyers don't have the space to add Campbell for the future years.

It wasn't fanciful, it was just another player in the long list of defenseman that you said the Flyers would be getting. Now we can add Campbell to the list. Campbell is not the player I want the Flyers to add. |

FLyers need to tighten up their overall game, and Timonen will be just fine. My problem isn't that Timonen is coming back next year. It's that it's for 6M. That's too much. 3 or 4M would have been more like it.

The Flyers have about $2.25mm in cap space next season. Adding Campbell is not a realistic option unless they either move money out in another trade or get Florida to take salary on.
There's also the fact that, next summer, they will be handing significant raises to Giroux, Brayden Schenn, Couturier and Read. |

Campbell is a nice player but not worth that cap hit. The Flyers should look in another direction if they want to add blueline help.
Unless they plan on trading Mez for Campbell but not sure that helps either team. |

No offense, but I hate playing fantasy Hockey in trade discussion. To me it doesn't make a lot of sense to speculate on players that aren't likely available. And if they are, then you're looking at giving up players such as Couturier, B Schenn, or Voracek to obtain them.

Timonen is not retiring. - MJL
Probably not. I did NOT like the deal when they signed him. There was no reason for the timing or the amount in my opinion.
He is definitely a player in a steep decline, injuries are playing a big part of this. I understand the reasoning behind the signing but I definitely do not agree with it. As he is now he is not a 6 million dollar dman. He isn't even a 4 million dollar dman.
Looking at cap geek for next season I think this one is going to bite them in the ass.

Columbus plays better team defense. The coach holds players accountable. |
