Brayden Schenn has shown what though? Prone to being injured, inconsistent in his own zone and a lack of effort throughout stretches.
Read is in his 2nd NHL season, and has shown he can carry the team beign thrown up and down the lineup. He plays resposible hockey, and fills a wing position the organization is lacking in.
Read might not have the shine sorrounding him thet Brayden Schenn does, but Read is far more of a valuable player, and more than anything has shown more initiative in having a consistent complete game than Brayden Schenn has. - flyer_nutter
Read is also about 5 years older. B Schenn is only 21. He stays. |

If we are trading Lava because the team has tuned him out was that also not the case with Hitch and Stevens?
If they fire him because they want a coach that will improve the D-game and improve player accountability so be it. I just dont want the players given some idea that any of their play has been acceptable. The veterans to be even more specific, or even younger guys who have a decent amount of NHL game experience, should not require someone to kiss their ass to get them motivated. - flyer_nutter
For me, it is about defensive positioning in their own zone. Bryz hasn't been spectacular, but I look at the Devils defense and the Flyers as very similiar. Decent not elite talent, but the Flyers allow teams way too easy access to get to quality scoring chances on the ice way too often. There are way too many times guys are open in the slot, breakaways, and guys left open in front.

Read has less "big game" experience then Schenn. Probably even less NHL experience but I'm not going to look it up.
Its just a personal thing, but if I am more likely to keep a player it is a guy like Read. |

Regarding the Flyers D-zone coverage.
A lot of factors in play. If Bryzgalov makes a big save, mistakes aren't exposed as easily. The Devils do not have a great D on paper, but they also have not had to employ 2/3 retards on the back end. Foster, Gervais and Guss wouldnt sniff the ice for most NHL teams.
When those guys are on the ice, even with a better partner they are outmatched. The Flyers D is also below average in being able to skate the puck up the ice, or transition with creativity.
The forward coverage is poor, and that really gives the team no chance. If the other team is allowed to sneak guys in without any coverage that is trouble for any D core. Flyer forwards need to be more aware of what is going on around them, and when they are not feebly skate back or wave their stick. |

He's gone by tonight so Ruff can coach against his former team. |

I hear ya. And I like Read, don't think he should be traded. But I also like Schenn and don't think he should go anywhere either, at least not this year because of this crap season.
Schenn was playing much better when he was paired with Jake. Let's face it, playing with Briere right now isn't going to make anyone better, and Simmonds doesn't do much outside the PP.
Schenn likes to throw the body, which I like. If he can turn into a solid faceoff man and chip in 15, 20, 25 goals consistently, I'm good with that...depending, of course, on his salary.
Edit: He does need to get better defensively though. Him and Simmonds should go to some D bootcamp or something this summer. |

Braydon Coburn and Kimmo Timonen are #1 and #2 respectively in most minor penalties taken in the league. |
