Braydon Coburn and Kimmo Timonen are #1 and #2 respectively in most minor penalties taken in the league. - flyguy12
I blame the coach for that. Needs to put these players in a better position to succeed. |

I can somewhat understand Timonen as he's old and slow, but WTF is Coburn's story this year? He's been horrible. |

Confidence. This team lacks confidence in the style of play that the coach demands. |

A good coach can adjust to the strengths of his players. If a coach only has one style and the GM doesn't fill the roster w/players that fit that system, well then you're (frank)ed... the 2013 Philadelphia Flyers. |

Not sure how you can be an NHL coach and only have one style. That sounds like a coach at your kids deck hockey league. |

The flyers blue line isn't well suited to play his up tempo style. |

I wonder how much of this is no preseason and jumping into what is essentially play-off hockey.
At the very least, it was like starting an 82 game season at game 40, mentality wise. They just were not ready.
Jake is having a nice contract season and schenn is showing he can score at this level finally. - nails
Contract season? He's signed until 2016. |

I completely understand that and if thats the case then you need to adjust to your personnel. How can you continue to try and run a style that doesn't fit the mold of your players? |

Exactly. I haven't really seen any adjustments by Lavi. |

I just don't understand it. Something has to be done. Change the style of play (make adjustments) or fire his ass. |

Nice goal by JVR. 14 goals on the season. That would be first on the Flyers wouldn't it? |

The frustration of the fan base is absolutely understandable. But the talk of trading some players based on the current state of the team is absolutely ridiculous. Sean Couturier is struggling. But any talk of trading him because of these struggles is not only ridiculous, but just plain stupid. Sean Couturier's value as a player and his potential has not changed one bit. |

Have Babcock or Trotz changed their styles?
Carlyle?
These guys coach what they coach. Lava coaches an aggressive up-tempo game, and its the GM's job to get the players that fit the identity of the team, and system.
I agree that the current style of play is not best suited to this group, and it may cost Lava his job. I dont think the system is the problem here, no coach or new system is going to make this group play like a top team.
A new coach may focus more on defensive play and hold players more accountable. |

Nobody suggested throwing him, or anyone else away.
If it makes the team better long term, I make any deal. I would however not considered Coots an untouchable guy as I may have once. Thats just a personal thing. |

Lol at this thread. So many ready to give up on Cooter. He's 20, what were you doing at his age? There's going to be growing pains.
Lavy should be gone in my opinion. Not just for his system but he's made some piss poor coaching decisions if you ask me. Briere should be gone. His stats aren't bad but watch the games. I still dont see buying out bryz this summer as an option. Gotta wait till 2014 |

I don't see why Lavi can't make those adjustments. I'm not asking him to change his entire system but you have to make these players play at both ends with the way the roster is built. They dont have the horses to run that up tempo style with his current blueline. |

Who is giving up on Coots? Or is the talk more of any player is fair game if it makes the team better long term. |

Mentioning Couturier as a player to be traded is absolutely reactionary to the current situation. And it's ridiculous. It goes without saying that any player is available if it makes the team better. That even includes Giroux. That would be the case regardless of the team's record and current level of play. The future for Couturier has not changed one bit due to the current growing pains he is experiencing.
