saw the last 5 minutes of the 2nd period. didn't even realize they were playing today. glad i didn't waste my time.
everyone talked about how going 1-1-1 in this stretch of games wouldn't be enough, unacceptable. 0-3. i see all 3 goals came in a 2 minute and change span in the first period. wow. haven't seen that before in boston. joke.
at least they got meszaros back. |

Ill sum up the game.
1. Jake and Rinaldo were the only players that didnt seem to quit. Rinaldo threw a big clean hit then lost a fight to Thorton.
2. Giroux, Hartnell and everyone else were no shows.
3. Bryz maybe could saved 1 or 2 of the goals that went in..Not sure but he played solid enough.
4. The flyers traded Talbot and the other black holes (my new band name) for some of the girls in the Pittbull video.
5. Lavy is still coach. |

He shot the puck from the point without first foolishly hesitating for 5 seconds. I forgot Defenseman were allowed to do that. |

Wow...lots of debate about trading Coots, and whining that Fedotenko is not doing enough? Really?
Also, we don't need a #1 stud d-man to win games. We need forwards that know how to cover their damn checks, backcheck, and pressure the puck in all three zones. So if we're going to trade Coots because he's not putting up good numbers with Rinaldo and Talbot ,etc., we should demand 6 forwards that can (frank)ing play defense as the return, not a #1 d-man.
The problem on this team is not the defensemen (other than Gervais, who is ghastly). It's the forwards. - BringBack25

Interesting Stats for the "Bryz is overworked" crowd.
Bryz 24 games .899 sv%
Ryan Miller 23 games .915 sv%
Rinne 22 games .917 sv%
So yes, Bryz may have played the most games in the league but the difference is extremely minimal compared to other workhorses. Bryz is also the only goalie in the top 10 games played with a sv% less than .900.

Bryzgalov's coach isn't very good. He can't make adjustments and his team defense stinks. |

Bryz is also the only goalie on that list that has to play on the Flyers. That's his biggest issue.
Yes, I realize he could play better, but no goalie is going to have good numbers on this team. The team defense (primarily the forwards) is just too unbelievably bad for that to happen. Hell even a guy like Lundqvist would look pretty average playing with this group. |

Who is debating about trading Coots? There was one person here that latched on to a certain topic that if the right deal came along Coots would be traded. Dont know what the issue with that is, but hey.
I personally tend to believe Fedetenko hasnt provided enough for the team, specifically 5 on 5, at the same time I am willing to admit there may be better options out there instead of defending him to no end. Perhaps its because he was brought up and not others?
The only whining I see, is from latching on to little comments or topics, and turning them into something that allows that ohh so popular endless debate.

I do think he is overworked, and a lot of teams get good chances against him.
At the same time, he is paid to be a top goaltender in the league, and has a contract that requires him to do so. To not be average, to make momentum saves, and play with consistency most of all. The contract, does not add up to the inconsistent play. He is not paid to be average, and has shown for stretches he can be "that" top guy. He at the same time has shown an inability to do it consistently. I used to be neutral toward him, at this point I buy him out. |

there is no doubt that the forward group is mostly poor defensively, but there's a reason homer tried so hard to acquire suter and weber. the outlets are awful and both forwards and dmen are to blame. |

Thanks. That clears it all up. I have clearly underestimated the significance of the 5 on 5 play of our PK/defensive specialist fourth liner, and was unaware it was a major reason for the team's poor play thus far.
Kidding aside, my point was that Feds' play, 5 on 5 or otherwise, is so far from the biggest issues facing this team that it seems kind of silly to bring it up as any sort of serious problem. He's pretty much done what he was brought in to do. If everyone else on the team was doing what they were brought in to do to the same level Feds is, we'd be winning a hell of a lot more hockey games. |

Brayden Schenn has shown what though? Prone to being injured, inconsistent in his own zone and a lack of effort throughout stretches.
Read is in his 2nd NHL season, and has shown he can carry the team beign thrown up and down the lineup. He plays resposible hockey, and fills a wing position the organization is lacking in.
Read might not have the shine sorrounding him thet Brayden Schenn does, but Read is far more of a valuable player, and more than anything has shown more initiative in having a consistent complete game than Brayden Schenn has. - flyer_nutter
B schenn has been one of the better players on the Flyers lately. Atleast he is getting involved in the games and making an impact physically. Briere is playing as bad as Feds and Knuble but worse defensively. I don't understand your beef with B Schenn though.
EDIT: Oh yeah and Its B Schenns 2nd year as well, give the kid a chance, he is going to be a stud. |

I'll try and decongest the issue a little further. He is brought up as part of the team's issues.
If you feel as though he has been good enough so be it. I believe there are better options, and guys who could give the team more momentum 5 on 5. There was a comparison to him being as good as Lappy in terms of numbers. Or where the team sat in terms of overall PK. To even compare what Fedetenko has brought to this team compared to Lappy, who were both 4th line players is interesting to me.
Every player matters, and in this evaluation cluster(frank) of a year, everyone should be analyzed. Especially after the performances we are seeing.
Yes though, I do agree with many other players being at fault. I'd even give the Zamboni guy an extra drug test. |

Nobody said to not give the kid a chance, or that he will not be a good player.
If it came down to it however, I would choose to keep Read instead of Brayden Schenn. As of right now, and neither one would be thrown away for peanuts. |

Bryzgalov's minutes aren't out of line with a number of top Goalies in the League. I don't believe that he is overworked in terms of minutes played. But I do believe the situation that he has to play in, is a factor.

People have the right to voice their opinions. Thats the point of this board to suggest options even if they are good or bad. |

What would be your next course of action? - stveshdy
There are not a lot of great options at this point. Until recently I was of a mind to give Lavy the rest of the season to see if he could dig himself and the team out of this mess. But they are so consistently bad, that I am now wondering if it would be better to go with Murray for the rest of the season and simply tell him to fix the bad habits and let the chips fall where they may. If we're not going to make the playofffs, we might as well teach all these young forwards how to play the right way.
So I guess my next course of action would be to make a coaching change, instill Murray as interim, and tell him that he is free to play whomever he wants, as much as they deserve to play. As an interim coach, he should be able to hold everyone to the same standard of accountability since he doesn't have to worry about having to get along with that player in the future.
Then I'd make a move for a full time coach in the offseason. Although if Murray works miracles I'd consider him as the full time coach, but I'd want to see who else is available at the end of the season. Seems likely both Florida coaches could be out of a job by the end of the year, as well as a few others. |
