Visnovsky settling in with Islanders?

Due back sometime this weekend -- Saturday? Sunday? -- after attending to a sad, personal matter in Slovakia, defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky may soon be joined by his wife and kids. Kevin Schultz of Islanders Point Blank relays word from overseas that Visnovsky has found a home in Nassau County -- Jericho, specifically -- for the whole family.
However, Schultz cautions against making the assumption that Visnovsky is looking to re-sign with the New York Islanders.
"... I wouldn’t read too far into this in regards to Visnovsky staying longer than this season on Long Island. Many players rent houses, and there’s no indication here if that was or was not the case ..."
The 36-year-old is still thought to be most interested in signing as a free agent with a strong contender this summer. - brodydog29
Really? i know it's speculation but what happened to him not wanting to play in the NHL and going back home, hoping the Ducks would by him out etc? Like i said before if Detroit or some other competitive team traded for him in the first place you would've never heard a peep from him. |

The question wasn't about point producers though but rather who has the best overall game and would therefore be taken #1 overall. As I mentioned, Malkin and Crosby are 1 & 2 but durability issues would cause me to take Tavares. I think Crosby is the best player since Mario but the fact remains he's probably a concussion away from playing checkers with Muhammad Ali. Stamkos is Bossy reborn.. The ultimate sniper but not a world class playmaker like Crosby Malkin & Tavares. I wonder what Tavares' numbers might look like with either Malkin or Crosby on the team |

He took a big hit last game and got right back up, he's taken quite a few this year. The worry will always be there but I think he'll be fine. Every man that plays this game carries a risk of injury shortening their career whether you've had a head injury or not. Tavares is a beast, I look forward to the match up. Don't think Malkin will be playing so the lights will be on those two. |

That's the whole picture most don't look at. They look at the players stats individually and not what's around to help them with those stats.
You put Tavares on Pittsburgh, Tampa or any team that has multiple threats, this conversation would not just be between Isles fans but people across the NHL would make a fight for JT being one of the best.
The only negative I have on his game is his play in the defensive zone. |

However your chances are GREATLY increased if you spend over a full year recovering from one and then suddenly receive another. I hope to God it doesn't happen but if I were an owner invested in a player for the length of their career, I'd definitely be more concerned about that player after a years layoff than before the first one ever happened. Which was my point, from a personal (and yes homer) point of view, I'd feel more comfortable choosing to build around a guy who didn't suffer what some started pondering could be career threatening injury.
My point is not to say that Tavares is better than either Crosby or Malkin because I don't think he is (yet), but that from a long term prospect, I feel more comfortable with the guy who hasn't suffered a major injury that could easily resurface. |

To each their own. I'd still take Crosby but I'm a homer too. |

I will say this in regards to the comparisons of these great players. I see something in both Tavares and Crosby that I haven't seen with anyone else since Mario. They both have the most profound ability of being able to see the game in slow motion. They play the puck to empty spots with a timing that almost always seems to put linemates in a position to score. The do so with a poise that allows them to seemingly mock other teams defenders.
I don't think there will every be anyone quite as dangerous as Mario Lemieux was in that fashion but these two guys break down the game naturally in a way that only Mario and Wayne did better (IMO)during our generation. I think that will become more apparent if JT ever get's to play along side a real dangerous talent.
I don't see that with Stamkos. With him I see a guy with lights out skating ability and the best quick release since #22 played. Another Pavel Bure type guy, one of the greats, but lacking certain playmaking skills to likely ever qualify him as one of the 'greatest'. |

Straight out of Juniors, I'd be right there with you. We've seen too many scary issues with science in coordination to concussions over the last few years, including issues that seemingly lie dormant but turn on like a light switch. Hopefully Sid never has another one again and becomes the ambassador of the game he was always projected to be, I think the personality damnation he goes through by some is totally unfair.
I worry though as I remember guys like Steve Young who looked for a couple of seasons as perfect as any quarterback I've ever seen but suddenly were forced away due to concussions. Many will say they're like seizures, in that they become far easier to occur after the first. |
