I have to admit when I saw the replay of Brayden's save last night I was like "Holy poop!"
Speechless, just absolutely speechless.
Even though we won, I wasn't impressed with the win. The first few minutes felt like we were kicking a downed puppy but then they laid back and I was worried particularly as we didn't finish over and over and over...
Anyone else impressed or worried that Rinaldo stood up to Scott who is so much out of his weightclasss? I can't remember what they said but he's was like 6'9" compared to Rinaldo's 5'11"? I was glad when he didn't have to take that on...
And when Ott hit Rinaldo and Talbot had to leap over him I had flashbacks of G taking the Simmonds knee to the back of the head... Luckily no...
Any thoughts on the Simmonds hit where he hurt the guy or the Schenn hit on Gerbe? I have to admit on the Gerbe hit I was half asleep (long day). My fiancee though he was trying to draw a penalty but figured I'd ask some thoughts here... |

Possible conditioning stint. - tangent_man
Where does he fit on the team now? With everyone healthy he's not a top 9 forward and the forth line consists of Fedotenko, Talbot and Rinaldo, all of which I'd be hesitant to scratch. I know Rusty doesn't have a lot of fans but he's a big part of the PK. |

it sure would be a lot easier to move forward w/ projections about where the team is going w/ bryz as a solid piece going forward, but unless he dramatically upgrades his performance, an objective read of the situation clearly shows he hasn't been worth it and it may be time to move on. - isaiah520
You are not reading it objectively though, you are just looking at stats without context it would seem. |

That is not an objective read on your part. If you're not considering the team play in front of him, and the situations he is facing game in and game out. Then you aren't being objective. |

The shorthanded goal last night definately bough Talbot and Rusty some breathing space... |

Good point, and reading other posts, I considered that.

The Bryz issue should depend on where this team is going. If they're gonna swing for the fences and try another retool a la 07/08, then he may be worth keeping on. However, if they're content to go with drafting/developing players, then it may be worth it to buy him out bring in a Biron/Ellis-type to split time with a young goalie and let the team grow. Because if that's where this team decided to go, you don't want Bryz eating up that cap for the next 2-3 rebuild seasons. |

Very impressed by Rinaldo. That play he had on Vanek in the offensive zone when he just knocked him over was incredible.
Simmonds hit on Ennis looked fine to me as it seems Simmer was already getting ready to hit him when Ennis turned.
Schenn's hit on Gerbe was bad bad bad and I wouldn't be surprised if he got a little ring-a-ling-ding from Mr. Shanahan.

The Schenn hit on Gerbe was called correctly. However, he hurt Gerbe so much that he was writhing in pain, and it took Gerbe a good 1:30 to hop on the ice, hold Giroux, punch him, the cross check him when he was down. Seriously injured.
The Simmond poop was borderline, but Ennis turned as Simmonds was right next to him. It's not like Simmonds lined him up and hit him, he was in close quarters and Ennis turned his back. |

I'm still having a tough time wrapping my brain around the Fedotenko hate. If he were really letting the team down defensively it'd be one thing, but... well, I just don't get it, is all. |

He doesn't score so he doesn't have the stats to prove he's valuable. If he wasn't so good at killing penalties I'd have no problem with scratching him. |

I really wants Coots to pick it up. Last season he was so good! This season he looks like he's paying stoned... He's not great in either zone and that frustrates me... |

I'm coming around on Fedetenko. The PK is dramatically improved, and he is a big part of that.
I think people see that he isn't a great skater, doesn't score much and is bad on faceoffs and direct some unwarranted vitriol his way.
For the role the Flyers use him in, 4th line and PK he's more than capable. |

That's the thing, I have no problem sitting him if it gets a better player on the bench. But as a fourth line player, he's been fine. |

The Simmonds hit was a good non-call. I feel bad that Ennis got hurt, but he turned to face the boards at the last second.
Gerbe heard skates behind him and made a good play to draw the penalty. He stayed down long enough to bring out the trainer, then popped up, took off his helmet and fixed his hair. Knew he wouldn't miss a shift.
I was more surprised when he had Giroux tied up for an extended length of time on his next shift - with a ref watching from 10 feet away - that there was no holding call.

He's regressed this year. Still only a baby though. He hasn't exactly been surrounded by great talent on his wings most of the year. Had he buried his chance last night that game is over right then and there. |

He's been fine defensively, IMO but I want his offensive game to develop. I think he'll start to pick it up playing with Gagne and Read. He's never played with wingers as talented before. I hated seeing him on the 4th line on Saturday. That couldn't help his growth or confidence. |

Not much in the way of playmaking those two guys. They are scoring in droves though. |

Faceoffs are a thing to consider, but the inadequacy at the dot should be framed as a team issue rather than a Fedotenko issue, eye em oh. |

I think Pronger had touched on something when he said Consistancy was our biggest issue and that it was different guys making the mistakes.
I don't think we make the playoffs this year. This team is not where it needs to be for that. As crazy as it may sound (to Philly Fans) I think if we finish up this year without too many changes and jump into next with the same team... I think we could very well go deep into the playoffs. We are a young team and Young teams are incosistant. The Ducks had this issue with their D last year and this year they are playing lights out. Let the youngsters develop. Keep the Vets (for the most part) and keep the Coaches and give it til next year.
But for those who want to tank for draft picks and jettison all our vets, how is that working for Edmonton & the Isles? Lotsa great draft picks with nobody teaching how to win? This team already has a ton of youth. Let them develop. |

Exactly. Fedetenko hasn't been used in his career to take a lot of faceoffs. The team is asking him to do something he isn't very good at. That's not his fault. |

a point is a point...as long as the goal is going in it doesn't matter if you score it or assist on it. just thought it was funny seeing their stats. |
