Most of what you say makes sense to me, but how can you say the players are unable to play aggressively and they know it? What do you mean? They don't have the energy or desire to play hard? JvR was ultra aggressive and Gagne isn't? Jagr could forecheck but Voracek can't? Carle could play hard but Schenn can't? I don't think this team would be any better for another coach. They lost good players and did not replace them with better players. This team is not good. Holmgren put the team together and he hired the coach. If these players are the wrong players to play in Laviolette's system then it's on him to get the right players or the right coach. - Dkos
The team as a whole is not able to be effective playing that style game in and game out. They know that they don't have the defenseman. And they know that playing that way, they give up chance after chance to the other team. It's why they seem hesitant when they get a lead late in games. Nothing to do with playing hard. |

I said at the time it was a quick hook and didn't agree with it considering the alternatives. Just because a young player gets benched, doesn't mean he has to be traded. - PLindbergh31
No, but signing another goalie to a 9 year deal because of the mishandling of a young player is what happened after Laviolette's juggling act. That led to the trade.
Snider definitely overreacted, but so did Laviolette in burying Bobrovsky behind Leighton. |

I don't begrudge them anything. Good for them. I still make the Carter trade and Bob's road was blocked here, through no fault of his own. |

I didn't post it for that reason at all......it just seemed like one more indignity to have to deal with after the week the Flyers just had.
Whoever does those weekly 3 star things should have gone full on Flyers troll and made Carter and Richards co-3rd stars of the week.

You are not reading it objectively though, you are just looking at stats without context it would seem. - NickTheKid87
he has not played up to his contract. I've watched every game and i know how often we need him to make the momentum type save where he hasn't come thru. you act as if I'm an out of town fan just looking at numbers. do you want 7 more yrs of what we've seen so far?
that's certainly an objective analysis. |

That is not an objective read on your part. If you're not considering the team play in front of him, and the situations he is facing game in and game out. Then you aren't being objective. - MJL

Im honestly baffeled at the responses here. Bottum line this group isnt working. Also 9 more years of ilya are not good. Do you think were gonna find a taker for that? The islanders have 20 million invested into there goaltenders already. We gotta give some to get some. Bottum line dont know how we sign giroux after next season. Were strapped finnancially and have the least cap in the league. How do we get under next years cap. Like it or not something big has to change. |

I agree that he hasn't lived up to the contract, but you were disregarding other factors that may have lead to that. |

are you saying...because the defenseman aren't good the forwards are hesitant to play an agressive offensive game? Was our defense better last year? I'm having a hard time blaming the coach because his players aren't good enough. |

Don't need to trade assets like the Schenns to get out from Bryz's contract.
They can just buy him out this summer, if need be. |

they all overreacted and mishandled everything. however - to be fair to snider - the goalie elephant in the room has been lingering/haunting the franchise since hextall in the late 80's - whether's it's "true" or not - the perception has been there for decades. what puzzles me is that they never really acted sooner to do whatever it takes to get the legit, long term guy here. anyway - i just look at that clown show as the final goaltending straw - and bryz was the only legit option available at the time of the culmination of said overreaction. had there been other choices, who knows what decision gets made.
in the end, bob may turn into a HOF'er for all we know, and the flyers will have blown it for a headcase stuck in a bad mix. or maybe if bob were to have stayed, he never becomes what he does in columbus or somewhere else. we'll never know.
i'm just pissed because i bought a bob jersey last year. |
