There is no fallacy in my reply. If you aren't looking at all the fctors that contribute to a situation. And are just looking at the player in a vacuum. Then there is no objectivity. |

Do it and do a real rebuild. - Flyskippy
I'm not saying to buy him out just yet, just saying that it's a better alternative to trading Brayden Schenn and others just to be able to unload Bryz's contract on another team (as if that's feasible anyway). |

I despise James Neal more. Dumber than a bag of hammers in the first period and yet the Flyers still give that game away. Ugh.
More mad about that game than any other in a long time. Probably because it felt so much like Game 6 in 2009. - Flyskippy
Speaking of which, I was only 2 games off on my prediction of a 5 point night from Crosby! |

He played in a defensive system in Phoenix and I think that Bryz has proved he can't play without having really strong team defense in front of him so I would at least give him a shot with a new coach (assuming Lavy's gone at some point) and if it doesn't work then buy him out. - NickTheKid87
most goalies can play with a strong team in front of them and when the pressure ramped up in the plyoffs, he fell short there as well. given that we have another buyout available, it's not complete folly to give him another shot, but that's it and as i posted before, I'm not optimistic. |

Im honestly baffeled at the responses here. Bottum line this group isnt working. Also 9 more years of ilya are not good. Do you think were gonna find a taker for that? The islanders have 20 million invested into there goaltenders already. We gotta give some to get some. Bottum line dont know how we sign giroux after next season. Were strapped finnancially and have the least cap in the league. How do we get under next years cap. Like it or not something big has to change. - Joshc
The Flyers can buy out Briere and re-sign Gustafsson, Rinaldo and Wellwood and have $7mm in cap room.
There's a lot of younger players that are going to stay at the same level or keep improving. That will help a great deal. There's other factors, such as who is available, either via trade or free agency to fill the needs of the team.
Also, the cap is probably going to rise quickly. I wouldn't be amazed to see a salary cap of around $70mm again for the season after next. |

I'm just volatile right now. On one hand I want to be patient and see if this team can right itself and on the other I want to slash and burn it down to just the youngsters. |

are you saying...because the defenseman aren't good the forwards are hesitant to play an agressive offensive game? Was our defense better last year? I'm having a hard time blaming the coach because his players aren't good enough. - Dkos
I'm saying the team as a whole knows it can't play that style. If the players that are on a team, aren't conducive to playing a certain way. What should the Coach do? Keep doing the same thing and say well it's not my fault the GM didn't get me the right players. Or should he adjust the way he wants the team to play, to a strategy and style of play that better fits the personel on hand? |

No he didn't. At times? Yes, but he was not the reason they lost 4 straight to NJ.
I didn't want the guy here, but I'm not on some damned foolish crusade to rip him to shreds at every chance. When the 18 guys in front of him are putrid playing in their own zone, I don't focus on the 1 guy giving his all to stop the puck. - Flyskippy

That's the whole point. How many times he has to come up with the momentum save. How many times he has to stand on his head for the team to have a chance. What I want is for the team to play solidly and then we'll see what Bryzalov has.
And here's what you're not considering. They better get the best of the best in here to play goal. Because if the team game in front of the Goalie, doesn't get better. Unless it's a superstar on the level of Hasek, it's not going to matter. - MJL
Agreed. Let's take a minute to recognize that Bryz has played great in the Desert and in Disneyland... and Bobrovsky just got named top player of the week for Columbus. You know, it might not be them, it might be us... though that's not a comforting thought.

He wasn't commenting on Bryzgalov as a player. He simply gave the facts of what options are open to the Flyers. |

I'm more ambivalent in the sense that there is so much wrong with this team, there is no one thing that will fix it.
I just don't want any big trades for our younger players that involves getting old guys past their primes.
Beyond that, any move would likely be just re-arranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

Technically it was a 9 year contract designed for him to retire after 7 years. Much like Pronger's deal the last 2 years were only to lower the cap hit, he wasn't expected to play. His average pay over the first 3 years is approx 8.2 mill. This is year 2 so it would only be 5 more years of Bryzgalov. At the end of this year the Flyers will have paid him nearly 17 million of his 51 mill. By the end of next year all the fat at the beginning of his contract will have been paid and his pay will be more inline with his cap hit.

Don't need to trade assets like the Schenns to get out from Bryz's contract.
They can just buy him out this summer, if need be. - bradleyc4
And go with who? Heeter wont be ready, and anyone else in the system is pretty much a non-option. Teams aren't just going to give up goalies for a few picks... and the free agent list is pretty slim. 35 year old Niklas Backstrom? 38 year old Tim Thomas? 40 year old Nikolai Khabibulin? Jimmy Howard (will be re-signed)? Mike Smith (will be re-signed)? 36 year old softy Jose Theodore? Chris Mason? Labarbera? Budaj? Get Emery back?
I mean, I understand everyone is frustrated with Bryz... but quite honestly, he has given them the chance to win in most of the games this season. Not to mention, who do people want to see replace him? Unless you're going to give up a combination of Couturier, prospects, or other role guys (Simmonds, Talbot, etc), you aren't going to get anything good in a trade either. Bernier? I wouldn't hold your breathe with him either. I don't think LA will keep him, but there's going to be a bidding war for him, either through trade or RFA. Luongo? Yeah, that would solve everything... or not.
I hate to say it - but yes, I will say it.... they should have kept Bob. Maybe he would have sucked, who knows. But the kid had potential, and was NHL-ready. They could have ran with him and signed a cheap vet for backup just in case. If it didn't work out, well, you gave it a shot... it takes risks to get reward. Instead, the fans were crying.. the management was standing there with money in hand.. and under pressure, they threw $54 million at Bryz, mostly due to lack of options more than his actual worth. Well, here we are. But people are now calling for Bryz to be gone... but the bigger question is, who do you replace him with? People aren't just going to take pity and give them a #1 goalie for a 4th round pick, or Harry Z. Be prepared to pay big... |

And cried after every single one of them.. Never have a seen a team argue penalties more than them. Questionable calls, Ok.. But when it's so blatantly obvious, and you know you did it and got caught.. get in the frickin box and stop crying... |

Briere at wing is a disaster and Hartnell is doing jack playing on the top line.
Moving Briere back to center with Gagne with Hartnell on the off wing (like the 2010 playoffs/2011 season) may be worth a try.
