At the start of the season, he bailed them out left and right and how many times did the team end up making use of said bail outs? It's gotten to the point where it doesn't even make a difference the majority of the time and I think Bryzgalov knows that. He tries to do too much now and ends up letting in a softy.

Agreed, I also think he has worn down some with the workload. Thankfully the schedule eases up a lot over the next couple weeks and that should really help him.

If he can get back to or at least close to his numbers in Phoenix, he'd be worth keeping for the remaining 7 years of his deal. If still struggles in a defensive system then they should by him out. That's how I see things.

No, but signing another goalie to a 9 year deal because of the mishandling of a young player is what happened after Laviolette's juggling act. That led to the trade.

Snider definitely overreacted, but so did Laviolette in burying Bobrovsky behind Leighton.

- Jsaquella

Fair enough. Sometimes it's hard to put trust in a young player. Did Laviolette bail too quickly on Bobrovsky? Without question, everyone I believe would agree on that. I still don't feel like he had to be jettisoned. That is Management simply giving up far too quickly on a young player.

It's water under the bridge at this point, what's done is done.

No one is disagreeing that he's a buyout candidate. What people are disagreeing with is that you are only taking things at face value instead of delving deeper into the situation. There are more things at play, both physical and mental, than meets the eye.

Yeah, right. Huge difference between "not elite" and "he stunk."

The workload as well. I get what they're trying to do as we all know Bryz plays better with a heavier workload but there's a huge difference between starting 3 games in a row in a span of 7 days and starting 3 games in 4 days.

I agree that they didnt give up on him, they made a horrific management mistake with his playing time. Near the end on the season, Bouch was pulled and Bob went in for mop up duty. By entering these games, his games played criteria exceeded the allowable level to be eligible to be assigned to the AHL without waivers. Thus, he couldnt go to the Phantoms and develop. He and his 1,75M cap hit had to stay on the roster

Blame Boosh for sucking

One of these years Boucher or Leighton won't be the backup. Most likely by 2020 or so.

so now we have the "trying too hard" excuse. when did that become acceptable? it's a results business, so he better get it together. he has ~ 20 gms and then homer re-evaluates. maybe he gets one more yr. we'll see.

He made some huge stops against Pitt and in game 1 against NJ to keep the team in the game. After that everything imploded. Henrik Lundqvist wouldn't have put up a SV% over .900 in those last 4 games against the Devils. The team was atrocious.

Exactly. Snider made his pronouncement and Holmgren made the deal. At that point, Bob was a goner.

I'm not making excuses. We know Bryz is talented so I'm giving ideas as to a possible explanation to his inconsistent play. A player doesn't go from being good to sucking magically. There's always a reason.

Yeah. The team stinks. The goalie stinks, the Defense stinks and the forwards don't score or back check well enough. When the forwards do score the Defense and goalie can't wait to let one in and when the D and goalie are solid the forwards can't score.

They were lucky to win yesterday. Miller isn't the Ryan Miller of a few years ago right now.

You talk about Bryz needing to make big stops. In my opinion for most of the season he has been making big stops. And these losses would be 7 or 8 to 2 instead of 4 or 3 to 2.

Bryz needs to play better, but so does everyone else. I think that all things being considered, if Bryz played exactly as he has been playing, and the team in front of him started playing even half decent defense, the results would be much different.

A goalie, ANY goalie, can only do so much playing behind these guys.

I think the team is good but is being completely misused.

Also, yeah Miller had one unbelievable year but has otherwise been a good goalie, not elite like he's made out to be.

Yep. I'm not female doging about him being traded. At the time I thought a second round pick was a fairly good return. I didn't understand the use of the pick that was acquired but that's a different subject.

The pressure was for the Flyers to go out and sign a big name high ticket goaltender, right or wrong that is what they did. It would be nice to have Bob right now to give Bryzgalov a blow here and there. But the biggest plus would be having a legit option if they wanted to pursue the buyout option on Bryz.

he played better against NJ, but last yr overall, he was not good. i think his ~.904 sv % in his tenure here accurately reflects how he has played thus far. that's not always the case, but here i feel that it is..
