Yep. I'm not female doging about him being traded. At the time I thought a second round pick was a fairly good return. I didn't understand the use of the pick that was acquired but that's a different subject.
The pressure was for the Flyers to go out and sign a big name high ticket goaltender, right or wrong that is what they did. It would be nice to have Bob right now to give Bryzgalov a blow here and there. But the biggest plus would be having a legit option if they wanted to pursue the buyout option on Bryz. - PLindbergh31
You talk about Bryz needing to make big stops. In my opinion for most of the season he has been making big stops. And these losses would be 7 or 8 to 2 instead of 4 or 3 to 2.
Bryz needs to play better, but so does everyone else. I think that all things being considered, if Bryz played exactly as he has been playing, and the team in front of him started playing even half decent defense, the results would be much different.
A goalie, ANY goalie, can only do so much playing behind these guys. - MBFlyerfan
Good to know. I have been influenced by all the out of town broadcasters and analysts who cringe for the Flyers when they discuss Bryz. Apparently the future is bright.
he played better against NJ, but last yr overall, he was not good. i think his ~.904 sv % in his tenure here accurately reflects how he has played thus far. that's not always the case, but here i feel that it is.. - isaiah520
I'm not saying he's been good but .904 is below his career mark. I think that can be directly attributed to the system he's playing in. It does not favor defense and the team D has been terrible for the majority of his time here. The best the team ever played as a whole was in March of 2012. The team was playing D and Bryz responded to that.
I also think that we need to get it out of our heads that Bryz should be an elite goalie because he's not and, quite frankly, he never was, IMO. He's had an elite season and has been a very good goalie but not elite. I understand he got a giant contract but you can't hold it against him. The fan base created it's own expectations based on that contract and I don't think they were ever achievable.
too many opps for him to bail out this team where he didn't come thru. the prob is his play, like the teams, is too predictable in it's moments of futility in particular game situations. if they keep him another yr, i'll understand why they want to salvage, but i'm not putting lipstick on this pig. he has to play better than he has so far to justify keeping him. - isaiah520
Again, you make my point. There have been too many opportunities where he has needed to bail the team out. That is the whole point! Lessen the number of times where he needs to stand on his head and carry the team. What do you think happens? Will his SV% go up, or go down? He does have to play better in some cases. But he also pretty much carried the team for stretches this Season. But you want to ignore that. And ignore how the team has played in front of him as a factor.

Couldn't agree more with you. Very well stated here.
Good points all over but I would like to chime in cause Im bored...Aside from the youngsters on this team a rebuild wouldnt be a bad idea. This team has regressed since the cup run something has to give. Like someone had mentioned Flyers are getting bad value across the board between overpayment to players and average production. To put this into prospective all one has to do is go to capgeek...For one Flyers have the least cap space availabe which is no shock but should have better results. Has anyone seen how much the Flyers are spending on D? Easily the most of any team in this league yet they are very average. I dont have all the answers but this team needs to first manage the cap better and somehow get a good cushion to sign impact players. How the heck would they have afforded the Suter and Parise offers as reported last summer?
One good thing about the youngsters on this team they are still developing so when they are up for RFA they shouldnt break the bank. Giroux however will get a nice payday I assume. And I am also with the others on here disapointed in Bryz, yeah he's a good goaltender but he isnt making very many impact saves. Numbers dont like, he has been average at best if it continues Flyers will have no choice but to at least look at the options including a buyout. - flyerfan28
I still think we let last years success fool us all a little bit. We ARE rebuilding. The Schenns, Simmonds, Voracek, Gustavson, MAB (when healthy), Read, Coots, Rinaldo, McGinn, even our star player Giroux is pretty young.
I also think going all youth never helps young players grow. (look at Schenn with Toronto last year...he needs Kimmo right now)

It could be bright. And Im not saying Bryz cant play better, especially lately. Its just that I think he has been keeping the games closer than they have any right to be for most of the season.

I agree 100%. We are in year two of a pseudo-rebuild. Had they not had so much success last year, this year wouldn't look as bad.
Nope! Not a Burke fan. I have been critical of Holmgren, but I have to start taking into account the overwhelming shadow that Ed Snider casts down on him. Snider isn't exactly a hands off owner.
Took him 5 years to build up the Leaves - Jsaquella
I'm gonna maybe be the first to say this... I personally think the organization owes Holmgren one more year if this season does end up tanking and we miss the playoffs. He did what no GM has done post-lockout (the on in 05-06), and that's turn the team into overnight contender after a historic terrible season.
He's lead us to the playoffs every year. He's aggressive and makes deals when he can. This season has just been the culmination of so many factors working against the Flyers.
I still feel that this team can win under Lavi, albeit some roster changes, and Holmgren. Am I alone in this?

No one is disagreeing that he's a buyout candidate. What people are disagreeing with is that you are only taking things at face value instead of delving deeper into the situation. There are more things at play, both physical and mental, than meets the eye. - NickTheKid87
i was just explaining why i thought he was a candidate and why i thought that's what would happen eventually...then a hockey game broke out!
the part about my lack of objectivity or inability to look beyond the surface is so much excuse making. kinda like T J Gorrance thinking a hair cut would help him score goals...
some goalies have similar numbers and seem to make that key save and rise to the occasion. can you objectively say that about bryz? pelle lindburgh played during the highest flying era in NHL history and his #'s in his best seasons are similar to bryz's, yet guys like him made the key saves at crucial moments. at the very least, that's what we need.
