Who decides who is a buyout candidate or not? The fans or Flyers Management? I can tell you who I think is a possibility. But that's as far as it goes. Holmgren and Lukko haven't called me to ask my opinion. But I am available and waiting by the phone - MJL

I suspect that this is why we are discussing goaltenders, but look at Bob's work of late for the Jackets.
Hind sight is 20/20 but I still wish we could have found a way to keep him. Organizational depth in goal is never a bad thing, and I always felt way more comfortable with Bob in net as a backup than Leights or Boush.
Wow.

I definitely think Bryz is a candidate for a buyout. But does it really matter who they have in net if they continue to play the same way?
As it is, If I were to venture a guess, I would say Briere is almost certainly going to be bought out first. I would also guess that Bryz gets one more season then could possibly be bought out after the next season if things don't change.
All that being said, there is not a goalie in this league who would do any better playing behind this team.

I would have kept him if we could. BUT, people don't forget here.... He had a run, as well as the Columbus team of 5 straight good games...
Think of how Bryz's numbers would look if we could string together a streak like that.
Let's not get carried away here, yes Bob has played decent recently, but let's look at the larger body of work before we get carried away on this. |

But who? There is literally only a few guys I would touch from this summer's FA class in net. I can't see Minnesota walking away from Backstrom... Especially with Harding's long-term health. Tim Thomas MAY or MAY NOT be back... And then there is who? I'm not trying to be an bumhole or anything, but seriously look at the market and the potential goalies on the trading-block, and there really aren't that many options. - Flyers_V88
I would have to look at the UFA list. What I would do regardless of Bryz is pursue a trade for Lehner or Bishop from Ottawa. Would be nice to have a legit young goaltender as an option if buying Bryzgalov out does happen. |

I think the idea of buying Bryzgalov out would be to replace him via free agency. Get a guy for far less years at a lower cap hit who can roughly provide the same level of performance. - PLindbergh31
actually, we were sold on him as a .920 save % guy who i felt was in the top 10 - not 5 as often referred to. he's been underwhelming |

.920 in a DEFENSE FIRST SYSTEM. This is exactly what people are getting on you for. You're not taking everything into account. EVERY GOALIE will have better numbers in a defense first system than they would in a very offense first system like Laviolette's. You NEED to take this into account. |

I'm more forgiving of Holmgren than Laviolette.
I feel that Holmgren is trying to land guys that would better fit Laviolette's system. He offered $200mm in contracts to Weber and Suter. He did let Carle go, but he obviously felt that Weber would land here after losing Suter and didn't want to tread water while paying Carle over $5mm for 6 years.
If you follow writers throughout the NHL, you see every night the Flyers with a scouting presence at at least one, if not two or three NHL games. Homer's trying. Of that I have no doubt. - Jsaquella
Is Homer trying or are the vultures circling?
I agree, I'm sure as always Homer is doing all he can to make this team better. But I share fault equally between the two. |

Nope. It matters not a bit. The defensive play of this team does no goalie any favors.
I wouldn't be amazed if they bought out Bryz, though. |

I beleive that a superstar such as Lundqvist could play better on this team. But they aren't getting him. And I think that any of the other Goalies mentioned such as Howard, backstrom, etc, would face the same fate as Bryzgalov, and the results would be similar with the way this team currently plays. |

I just did and plucked those names from there, the UFA list for goalies this summer is really hurting. And I think Ottawa will be keeping Lehner almost certainly. As for Bishop, I'm not entirely sold on him yet. Ottawa has been forced to play a trapping and suffocating D to midigate their offensive short-comings.
In reality, there is no way to know how Bishop would play in Philly, but I'd prefer they kept Bryz unless we're getting something proven back. |

He has room to improve, no argument from me. But you have to take in account the level of play in front of him.
I truly believe Lundqvist, Quick, etc would be made to look mortal at times playing with this current Flyers team. Would they post a .903 save %? No, but would they post the .925-.930+% that they do with their current teams? Not a chance. |

Holmgren shares the fault, but I feel it's 60-40 or more towards the coach. He's known since last August that he wouldn't have Weber, Suter or Carle. Yet the adjustments haven't been there.
It's not as if Carle and Pronger were options. The GM can't land everyone he wants, the coach has to adjust to what he has. |

you'll have to excuse me...i'm on post #25 or something about this BS...i had the temerity to suggest bryz should be a buyout candidate - isaiah520
And literally nobody is saying the feel he absolutely shouldn't be a buyout candidate. One poster is saying he thinks the Flyers don't consider Bryz a buyout candidate (this is not a frivolous distinction).
The one thing I take issue with is that you've blanket labelled every attempt to give context to Bryzgalov's tenure as 'excuses'. That's just lazy. Excuses have been made by some in the fanbase, but there are absolutely factors to consider. Numbers are important, but when you disregard all context you're not truly evaluating his capabilities as a goaltender, you're just trying to win an argument on the internet. |

Tight checking in all 3 zones and solid team D makes a Bryz/Halak/Anderson look like a Lundqvist/Kipper. |

I agree on both points regarding Bishop and Lehner. I'd be open to Lehner but don't think they'll move him and Bishop is still a unknown, IMO.
What about Anton Khudobin in Boston? I've heard his name thrown around. I'm not sold on him either. |

I have to check the list. In theory that would make sense. Buying Bryz out, then having to trade away assets for a proven goaltender would be extremely costly. |
