here's your pair, pal.
the 1st guy that disagreed with me:
Let's look at a Goalies SV%. Does anyone think that if the Flyers elimnated or at least lessened the constant point blank chances from unchecked opponents. The bad line changes leading to breakaways, and 2 on 1's. The failed clears leading to extended zone time, and either more defensive breakdowns, or a penalty leading to a PP. Would have an effect on the Goalies SV%? Do you think it would go up or down?
So to summarize, I'll wait until the team plays solid team defense and a solid team game before just blindly looking at his SV% in determining he is a buyout candidate. And see how he plays in a situation where he doesn't have to stand on his head and perform miracles for the team to win game in and game out.
guess somebody wasn't ready to call him a buyout candidate, were they?
- isaiah520
Huge difference between my opinion on if I would buyout Bryzgalov. And if he is a potential buyout candidate in the eyes of the Flyers.

I have not watched many tampa games outside of the few against the Flyers and Pens. I notice Carle has a second worse -5 rating but obviously plus/minus can sometimes be deceiving. just curious if anyone has seen them play much |

If i recall, thats when his play started improving.....look at his stats from that point on. - KINGKENZO
It's true, ironically after that point in the season, Bryz started to get really sharp in net and went on to put up that shutout streak.
I have a feeling when we see Bryz playing like he is now, it's because he is trying to over-compensate for the team's short-comings. If we can settle this ship next season, figure out our system and identity, I really think Bryz can easily lead us with his play and our team-D help.

Funny story I was just remembering the other day: I was at a Grateful Dead show in 1992, Rich Stadium, just outside of Buffalo. Probably about 50,000+ at the show. Hot hot sunny day. Good fun crowd that had obviously tailgated much of the morning.
At set-break, my friends and I sat down in a big pow-wow circle and talked and did the sorts of things people do at set-break at a grateful dead show. We were just relaxing and biding the time, when all of a sudden a very inebriated/intoxicated, middle aged woman, who definitely had seen her share of hard and fast living crashed into our circle stomped on a few of us, and then proceeded to scream at us: "The Who '77, the (frank)ing Who '77 Cleveland!, bumholes like you all caused that mess and its going to happen to you here!" On and on she went like that for a few minutes until some dude dragged her on towards the exit. She got the year wrong, she got the city wrong (it was Cincy not Cleveland), but by god she was damn sure our mellow asses were going to cause a (frank)ing stampede. Needless to say, somehow I made it out alive that night. Worst thing that happened was having to smell somebody's B.O. and Jerry Garcia forgot a few lines (again). - Lexington Flyer
That is funny. I have been to Orchard Park, NY before. (Giants/Bills) game. Did you hit the Anchor bar? Birthplace of Buffalo wings. They are tremendous there.
Not a Dead fan myself, my old boss has been to something ridiculous like 450+ Dead shows, used to follow them around when he was in College... dude was nuts. I always get a kick hearing Bill Walton take about the Dead. I remember him saying the worst seat at a GD show is behind the 7 foot redhead. |

it's as if i have to regurgitate what everyone else knows are the problems of the team. that's a given from where i sit. i look at the chances he faces and in spite of it all, i expect a better performance. he's an NHL goalie and that's a hell of a tough job, but irrespective of what's going on around him, there are saves we expect him to make and others we don't. they are all out on an island at some point.
after a promising start, he's below avg and IMHO, there have been too many stoppable shots that find their way in. then when i look at intangibles, i believe i see a guy who will struggle with the pressure here regardless. at some point, we have to look at his performance in PHO and compare it here and yes, we have to look at the contract moving forward. even w/ all of the downfalls here, he's still busier/ out of position then he could be in net and he seems to have trouble stemming the tide when pucks start going in. i want the guy to succeed, but obviously, i have my doubts. if the next 20 games are like the first part of this yr, i will be happy to eat crow. - isaiah520
But do you understand what we are saying about him maybe lacking confidence in the team in front of him and that he may be over compensating on certain shots (i.e. Ryan Callahan's second goal the other night. Looked like Bryz was cheating and looking to poke check instead of positioning himself for the save because the only other person coming into the zone was Marian Gaborik, which a rebound would have allowed him to have a juicy chance)?
Also, like MJL has said, he has faced significantly too many more chances in which a "big save" may be required, which in turn could cause him to lose faith in the team.
I'm not saying that this is acceptable or anything. All I am doing is explaining why it could be happening. I'm not passing judgment in favor or against him.

You literally wrote off every defense as excuses. As for what another poster might have done to 'chase people off', I really don't care. Talk to him about it. If you're talking about me, grow a pair and say it directly (really, I promise I won't be upset). But you definitely have dismissed not only the presented context, but the fact that nobody is saying they don't consider him a possible buyout recipient. - BulliesPhan87

Reminds me of a few days ago when someone was female doging about Bryz and was saying how he was "never in the right position".
First off, that's a crock of poop.
Second off- similarly to what you said- I think we can chalk up a good chunk of those "out of position" goals (especially on odd man rushes/line rushes) to cheating for the pass/shot, because Lord knows his D won't help
Just a thought. |

I have not but they've dropped something like 8 of their last 10. They're pretty bad so that number doesn't surprise me. |

there certainly is a symbiotic relationship between the goalie and the rest of the team and it's fair to say that the team went south before him. last yr it seemed to be the other way around. |

I know Lindback has been shaky. They're pretty much a 1.5 line team. Although Stamkos seems like he scores 2 goals a game... |

Yeah, I think it's partially a Bryz issue as well, where he is still learning how to concentrate and function in this atmosphere. By that, more specifically, I mean that he is still figuring out to deal with the pressures, the expectations, and the overall inability for our team as a whole to play 60 minutes of solid hockey.
Also, I don't think he will ever admit it publicly as an issue, but I really think he needs some time off. We can't afford it with our back-ups, but keeping him rested physically and mentally I think would help a lot. |

To point out just how much worse theyve been this year, we can pretty much all agree that Bryz has been better and more consistant this year, yet his numbers are very similar. What i dont see happening this year is the ridiculous amount of double or triple deflections, the seeing eye shots or as many own goals, leading to worse #s.... just an observation and my opinion |

Well, that poster seemed to be saying something just a tiny, itsy, microscopic bit more nuanced than 'I would not buy out Bryzgalov'. But we don't need to discuss that poster. He's literally actively posting on this thread, and to your posts. I'm going to step down from my role as post interpreter, in response to the scrutiny.
As for if I would know if you have a problem with me, I don't have a witty sarcastic response prepared. If you could be a bit insulted or take exception, it'd mean a lot to me. |
