I'm getting the information from the play on the ice. Poor line changes and bad puck management certainly isn't part of Laviolette's system. It is however his responsibility to correct those issues. - MJL
Don't you think he has addressed the issues with his players? Laviolette has proved he is a good coach with this team and in Carolina. Don't you think he has tried to make adjustments?
If Holmgren decides that Laviolette has lost this team he should fire him. I tend to think this team just isn't good enough. I like the style of game Laviolette's teams play. It's a lot of fun to watch and the last few year have been a blast (especially 09/10). Holmgren needs pick a direction and stay with it. If Laviolette is the coach of this team than he needs to get the players to make it work. |

there certainly is a symbiotic relationship between the goalie and the rest of the team and it's fair to say that the team went south before him. last yr it seemed to be the other way around. - isaiah520
The one thing Bryz has never had here that he had in Phoenix was solid team defense in front of him.
This year it's even worse than last. There have been games where he hasn't made the big save, true enough, but there have also been games in which he was left out to dry without even a chance at the big save. The first game in Toronto sticks out in my mind. He allowed 4 goals and I'm not sure if even one was stoppable unless he made the save of the year each time. That kind of stuff can wear on you as a player. We can't forget these guys are human. |

To point out just how much worse theyve been this year, we can pretty much all agree that Bryz has been better and more consistant this year, yet his numbers are very similar. What i dont see happening this year is the ridiculous amount of double or triple deflections, the seeing eye shots or as many own goals, leading to worse #s.... just an observation and my opinion - KINGKENZO
Everything about this team this year has to be examine with the proper context, otherwise the variables such as our offense, defense, and Bryz can't be judged properly. The point about Bryz's play being more consistent, yet similar to worse numbers indicates that. Plain and simple, our team was better at hiding those factors last year because there was virtually no team in the league that we couldn't go run-and-gun with or outscore. |

I think he's been stopping more of them but I agree, I think there have been less. |

On a quick side-note however, someone much earlier on in the thread mentioned Roman Čechmánek...
Man, looking back now, did he get a brutal ride or what? Sure the game is a tad different now and our teams is completely different in terms of identity compared to then, but name another goalie who put up those kinds of numbers and is sent packing the following years...
I really wonder if had been given a fair shake, and we didn't play Ottawa those times in the playoffs in the early 2000's, what would have been...? |

There's a WKRP in Cincinnatti had an episode where the station gave away tickets to the show, and was dedicated to the victims.
Nine fans were killed at a Pearl Jam show in 1998, at the Roskilde Festival in Copenhagen, in a similar general admission fueled stampede. They mention the incident in the song "Love Boat Captain".

Ceckmanek might have gotten a raw deal with the media because he was Russian and a weirdo, but he apparently was a terrible teammate.

He was Czech (sorry for the correction :p lol). Yeah, I'd heard that back then too watching the team in that time period, but it's actually pretty shocking the numbers he put up, albeit under Ken Hitchcock's D first system.
2000–01 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 59 35 15 6 3431 115 10 2.01 .921
2000–01 Philadelphia Phantoms AHL 3 1 1 0 160 3 0 1.12 .969
2001–02 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 46 24 13 6 2603 89 4 2.05 .921
2002–03 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 58 33 15 10 3350 102 6 1.83 .925
I mean really, those numbers are actually insane lol. Probably literally all Flyers' records with respect to GAA and SV-PCT. |

More info I didn't know about. This type of stuff fascinates me. When I'm bored I pull up old Zep tours and read the news on them and look at the set lists etc... What a crazy time the 60's and 70's were for music. The crap today can't compare.
I'm not a huge Pearl Jam fan, the Ten album is one the best of the last 25 years imo. |

But you can't play for them. He and Berube HAVE and continue to try and correct things they're doing wrong. But the fact is, it comes down to them executing and listening. Listen to them mic'd up. They're always yelling not to bunch up along the boards in the offensive zone - what do they do... 3 forwards bunched up on the puck, and it quirts out to nobody in front. They yell about line changes - what do they do... too many men on the ice left and right, and last night nobody changed for Briere.
The coach is always the first one on the chopping block. But I see Lavvy as the least to blame at this point in time. He's coaching, they just aren't listening, or aren't executing.. either way, it's on them. Maybe it is time for some of these attitudes to go, if that's the case. You're getting paid to play hockey... do it... and do what your coach tells you. Line changes, and positioning should even have to be brought up to a guy earning millions a year. So if I were Lavvy, I'd actually find it pretty aggravating that they aren't listening to him when he does tell them...
IMO, this is pretty much all on the players... |

I don't feel he's made adjustments, or I should say I don't feel he's made effective adjustments.
He was fired in Carolina after a similar inability to get a team that lacked the pieces to play his system failed to perform.
The problem with your argument is that Holmgren has tried to get the players to play Laviolette's system. He offered $200mm in contracts to Shea Weber and Ryan Suter. He's been scouting every team in the league like mad. Do you really think if there was a good deal, or even a fair deal out there, that he'd stand pat?
Coaches need to adjust their system to what is on the roster. They need to instill discipline and hold players accountable. So far Laviolette hasn't done that very well. |

I'll say... I mean I don't think he was our savior or anything, but really, when you look at those numbers they're pretty eye-opening. People also forget, when the Flyers played the Sens in those playoff series, our offense literally went to sleep and died.
I can still remember that era like it was yesterday, it went something like this:
Toronto couldn't beat Philadelphia.
Philadelphia couldn't beat Ottawa.
Ottawa couldn't beat Toronto.
And New Jersey, playing their "watching-paint-dry-style" could beat us all :s |

Yup. I thought ditching Checko was a bad move regardless if he "showed up*" his team-mates.
*by showed up they really meant "called out the piss poor play of of the offense". |
