Because bryz is no cam ward

The goaltender has nothing to do with how the forwards and defense are used.

Originally, I was in favor of signing a stopgap and developing Bob but once they signed Bryz, Bob's days were number. Don't particularly agree with that but what's done is done.
- NickTheKid87

Well the pick that was acquired for Bob was used to draft a "project" goaltender. Made very little sense to me.

They don't have the appropriate pieces for it like they had in the past (which is on Holmgren). You can run an up tempo system with a defensive core of Pronger-Carle, Timonen-Coburn, Meszaros-6th dman as well as a version of Danny Briere who is effective but not with 3 stay at home guys, a beat up vet and a few plugs, more or less.

I agree...it is on Holmgren.

if Briere's cap hit was 3 million I would not have issues with him....well not great issues. but at 6.5 its just killer

its funny, G was first star last night and I kinda stratched my head at that. Yes, he score a goal and played ok but he also was the reason why the shorty against happened and hearing he was the one who didn't come on when Briere changed just reiterates my scratching my head

- nastyflyergirl

Yes. The 6.5 cap hit is just so far out of whack for his level of play. It can't be justified.

Concerning Bobrovsky...

With Columbus now moving to the same division/conference as the Flyers, or whatever the hell they are calling it...
That trade has all the makings of one that has the potential to haunt this franchise.

Bobrovsky is playing lights out hockey right now. A .919 save % with that current talent level surrounding him? Are you kidding me?

And I don't want to hear how Columbus plays defense, the other goalie there Mason has a disgusting .897 save %.

A prime example of the Organization giving up too quickly on a player.

- PLindbergh31

Yet he's still managed to let up a bunch of softies which would get him crucified here.

Bob couldnt handle the pressure of the playoffs. He was horrible and played scared.
- Philly1980

He was young (22/23) with a lot of room for improvement. I also thing he was mishandled during the postseason.

I don't think it was 'giving up' on him, so much as moving in another direction (a direction they committed serious greenbacks to). Maybe they felt it was only fair to move him, that he wouldn't have been happy with or suited for a back up role. He could come to haunt them, nonetheless. For now, I'm just happy for Bob, he's getting playtime and doing fairly well for himself.

Yeah but that understandable. Bob no speaka English. No playa north America. New country new arenas. But the one thing everYone could see was his raw talent. He will trend upward. I'm not saying he's the next pelle but personally when we went young ( rebuild in truth) would haVe loved to see bob grow with them. We couldn't be much worse then we are now. And as we see bob have tightened things up nicely.
- SMS4016

I dont give a poop those are excuses....And no he hasnt he still lets in poopty goals...just because he has had a good run in the last five games doesnt mean poop...is he better then bouch/leighton....yes...better then bryz?no.

I still can't believe he went to the bench last night and noone came on for him.

Obviously Bryz's fault.

I guess they figure Bob is an NHL goalie with the potential to be a starter in the very near future (which he is now in Columbus) while Stolarz would be ready when Bryz's contract is in the latter years.

I don't understand why Bob couldn't be the back up? His cap hit really wasn't that bad. It would've been better to trade him when someone came calling. Not when Homer made it obvious he wanted to trade him.
- The_Universe

Honestly, I think Bob was traded to remove controversy. It made a statement that Bryz was the man in net for the Flyers. Otherwise every bad game by Bryz people would've been asking for Bob. Bryz is a sensitive guy who wanted to play 68+ games a year. I understand why they did it but I always thought it was a mistake.

he was mishandled.... but i dont think he will ever be a bonified starter.... more like a backup that will always fight for the job.

The troubling thing, or most troubling thing is the intensity drop in the 3rd

Would you rather have Bobrovsky right now or Leighton/Boucher as the backup? Also Bobrovsky wouldn't look too bad as an option if the Flyers wanted to buy Bryz out.

Bobrovsky as a Flyer, 77 starts .909 save %. That is for a kid just getting accustomed to a new country, a new league, different size ice surface etc..

Maybe Bryz told Lavi he'd rather play with 4 men on the ice than have Briere in the defensive zone :p

Definitely. There's still plenty of career left, I don't think he's got 'playoffs problems'.

I agree...it is on Holmgren.
- Dkos

This season, partially. But while Holmgren did a poor job at getting Lavy the pieces he needed, Lavy has done a WORSE job at adjusting his style. This also goes back to last year when they went 0-6 against the Rangers and lost 4 straight to the Devils in the playoffs. He never adjusted to those types of teams then, even when he had the pieces.

I think Holmgren has done a poor job for this season (not for a lack of trying) but he still built an incredibly talented young core. I think we also have to remember that this is technically year 2 of a pseudo-rebuild (i.e. trading Richie and Carts).

Exactly what I've been saying for the last 2 weeks and getting restored on here for. Glad to see some people see things as they are and not how Philly wants us to see it or how we hoped it would be.

Hopefully this is what they're focusing on. It's nice to get a win and relieve a bit of pressure, but against a better team they drop the game in the third.

What's done is done. I'm not saying Bobrovsky is going to go on to win 3 Vezina's, I just view it as giving up on a guy far too early.

I could see that but I could also see him being a solid starting goalie. Not elite, but at least a guy who will give teams a shot at winning night in and night out.
