Anthony SanFilippo ‏@AnthonySan37 Just been told that Gustafsson's inconsistent play was the reason for sending him down and nothing is pending trade wise for the #Flyers

Are you kidding me? If Gus' play was bad enough to warrant him be sent back to ADK, then Gervias should be taken out and shot.

- BringBack25

Anyone else need anymore evidence as to why this team never seems to develop defense? There's never any patience.

Gervais is worse than having a corpse laying on the ice for 45 seconds. At least there might be a blocked shot.

Gus can go down and play a lot of minutes without waivers. Gervais would have to go thru waivers.

I had a debate with someone last week who told me the beatwriters know what they are doing/saying cause they do it for a living...

they absolutely do know what they are saying/doing

but quality, responsible reporting doesn't pay the bills (for most, at least)

They sent him to the Phantoms, they didn't trade him to Minnesota.

He'll see more regular ice time in ADK and play a lot more minutes.

Actually putting Gus in the A and not in the NHL is the opposite of rushing. Let him be groomed down there a bit longer.

It's a very difficult situation for a young defensman to play consistently right now. Hard enough for the veterans to do so. Better for Gervais to be exposed and have his confidence ruined then for it to happen to Gustafsson. Let him be the top guy in ADK.

I see this as the opposite. Letting him develop further in the A is having patience.

SanFillippo just tweeted it's likely to open a roster spot to let Harry Z burn off his suspension. I agree with that, along with the fact that a healthy Meszaros means that they had 8 defensemen on the NHL roster

CBA Question....

were compliance buyouts available to teams prior to this season after the CBA was approved?

Not originally, but they passed the Redden/Gomez rule. Teams could immediately do a compliance buyout, but had to carry the full cap hit for one season and pay 100% of this year's salary
