AT BEST.. I see him as a mobile puck moving 5th d-man who can potentially get some time on a second PP unit.

Not awful for an undrafted free agent. John Slaney went 9th overall, and he was basically a career AHLer.

Nice comeback from your boys last night.
With the exception of Patrice Bergeron I really can't stand that team.
A rare opportunity to root for the Pens.
Lesser of two evils I guess.

I absolutely agree.. Its fantastic actually. I just wanna quell the notion that some people have, where Gusty turns into Timonen over night and is a bonafide NHL top pairing d-man. Wont happen.

If we could continue to find NHL players outside of trades and drafts (ala Read, Gusty)... it would do wonders for this team.

How many is X? Does it vary by player, or is it a set amount of time?

18 months, if I'm not mistaken.

In other words, a typical rookie defenseman with some promise.
- Jsaquella

Common, is he really still considered a rookie??

He is so good. I don't remember him losing a draw the entire game and his defensive game is outstanding.

Big win indeed. The team would have lost that game 5 or 6 to 1 early in the year.

So that dirty scumbag Jame Neal's 2009 suspension wasn't a factor in the sentencing for his two-headshots-in-one-shift last April.

Probably Leight but I heard Read is moved up to play with Braydon and Simmonds.
Briere with Couts and Gagne.

Good move.

Technically, no. He played 30 games last season, passing the 25 game mark. Still, he's not exactly a veteran, one should expect he's still growing as a player.

Basically. He's played 44 games in the NHL. If not a rookie, then still a young player with potential. There's certainly some here who overrate him. But he could be a solid third pair guy and probably will be fairly cheap for awhile.

Had the Flyers been able to find a few of those they wouldn't have had to trade 2 2nd rounders and take on a 5th defenseman with a $4mm cap hit

Does the label really matter? He's a young defenseman who is still green and coming off surgery & suffered a bone bruise. So he's not at 100%, not int the best of circumstances since the forwards don't do all that well in the D zone and the team is on the cusp of being a mess.

We saw what he is capable of last season when he was steady, but the environment for him in the NHL last season was mor conducive to good play & growth than this year.

Really, really like putting Briere with Couturier and Gagne.

Gags and Coots can leave bread crumbs so Danny can find his way back to the defensive zone.

B's were a little tired I guess, but still impressive win without Malkin.
