Wasn't that Parent with Krajicek? Smith left after his lone season as Captain (2007-08)? Not busting chops...
- Flyskippy

Id rather have had Smith than Parent to be honest

25 years ago I knew all of one Pens fan and he was basically a Lemieux fan, now they're everywhere.

I find it a weakness of character to be pitied much like Cowboy fans.

Of course if you're from anywhere in PA west of Reading and York inclusive of those towns then good on you. Although why you'd live in Reading and root for a team 6 hours away when you have 5 NHL teams in closer proximity is beyond me.

Are you asking if the label matters to me or are you telling me if the label matters to you. When did we stop being picky around here? If Gus is a promising third pair defenseman, well that's just great but the knocks against him are his size and strength. That doesn't look like it seems to be changing. As for what we saw last season of him. I saw Budding take his spot for most of it
- SuperSchennBros

Rhetorical question. Defensemen take longer to develop so it doesn't matter if he's a rookie or not. He's a young defenseman so the book's not completely written on him yet. Unless one has already adjudged him to be a stiff because one needs a scapegoat or enjoys hating on players due to internal strife, chemical imbalance, lack of knowledge, etc.

In other words, a typical rookie defenseman with some promise.

At the time, though, didn't we consider Parent to be a future good player that the team wanted to develop?

Smith was a good, tough player with the Flyers, but he looked like he was running on fumes at times.

My worry for those who missed the point is this distance between Timonen and any other offensive defenseman on the club. Simple.

Classic.

I live alot more than 6 hours away but Reading and York both sound like beautiful places.

I hate Boston.. but there's not a chance in heck I root for the Penguins. I was hoping Boston put a beatdown on them last night.

Yes I'm nutz
If I watch a game I have to pull for someone, and my hate for Boston is bigger then Pitt right now, likely cause Pitt seemed like the underdog last night

F'ing nutz is right

- Marc D

I try not to watch a game if I can't immediately find a rooting interest. I just check in on those games.

Rangers-Pens, Devils-Rangers, Bruins-Red Wings, Blackhawks-Stars or any combination of those matched up is completely avoidable unless I'm trying to nap on the couch in the afternoon.

He's no Timonen, for sure, but we're kind of short on options at the moment. Can't blame Gusty for that one.

Well, one would expect a difference between a team's number one defenseman, who plays in all situations and a young kid on the third pair with 44 games of NHL experience under his belt.

Comparing the two is like apples and truck tires

Reading and York are dumps for the most part (sorry Flyers fans who live there, you should really move) the only difference is that Reading occasionally smells like low tide and has an ECHL team.

I will admit I am not a huge Erik Gustafsson fan but why does everyone see this as pointing fingers, when it is a simple fact. A huge hole on this team is offense and puck movement from the blue line. It is what it is. It's worrisome. Meszaros gets hurt and Gus becomes our second best puck mover to timonen

Me neither. At least, not willingly. Thankfully 5 minutes is all I was subject to.

Not even a big fan of Live. Just trying to show the whole

Philadelphia > York > Reading > Pittsburgh

thing that MOAT was working on.
