Gagner is not the team MVP. The players understand this is a business and they get a good asset back that will help them win. - yaktalksback
My only concern is the center depth.
NHL caliber center depth to clarify. |

It's not that gardiner can't crack the line up. It's they are evaluating which player to move where to fit him in. |

maybe not our MVP, but hes playing as good as any oiler currently.
i dont see how jake gardiner is worth sam gagner right now. especially to the oilers.
the guy's at a ppg clip right now.
and its like we so quickly forget that MOST draft picks take time!!
we're just now reaping the benefits of development time with sammy. and now we wanna deal him and hope some 18 year old steps in and fills his spot?
do u remember ebs as rookie? yaks alot of nights? nuge as a sophmore right now?
u wanna reset and do it again? and those are ELITE rookies.
maybe hemmer for him as it looks like we might have guys that can take his spot (prv, harti)
but dealing gags gives us a huge hole
bad deal. |

I think gardiner would look good with Schultz. For a first you say? I'll call nonis and have home draw up the papers. |

well u cant have gags or our first for him.
and hemmer is still a quality top 6 winger with elite skills. but our depth is finally coming to the forefront with the development time of our kids paying off
but fair enough, if u dont have a need for a winger |

UFA, Draft if high pick, Horcoff resurgance, Hall at center, Hemsky at center(where he has played internationally)

The joke about being Tambellin's wife cracked me up too much to say anything negative here. Horcoff is absolutely the type of guy that needs to be bought it, it pains me to say I've read most of your blogs and agree that it seems the oilers fans clustering social media don't read anything you write. He makes way too much money for the role that fits him most.
Being a leafs fan I have to comment on the potential trade you mentioned, and as much as I love the kid perhaps drafting Barkov (or another top end prospect) would be the answer. Gardiner is a fantastic puck moving D man but we all know the Leafs area of weakness, and despite the lack of ability to stop other teams offenses we have guys in the system who could very well help in a few years, we have no one currently who will be our go-to guy up front for years, unless you count Kadri but the jury is still out considering who he matches up against on a nightly basis. |

Haha man I bascially agreed with you that we did not have a trade.... You do not want to give up what we need so there is no trade....
I didnt realize that you or Clouts were actually in the running to be the next GM so I thought you would get the joke. Clouts would make the trade for a 1st which I agree I would not make if I was an Oiler so I would definitely accept as a Leaf fan .... For that reason I wanted Clouts as GM instead of you? |

UFA, Draft if high pick, Horcoff resurgance, Hall at center, Hemsky at center(where he has played internationally) - yaktalksback
Let's face facts here, there is a very small chance that the Oilers are able to attract a top 6 UFA centre. It is extremely likely that any centre the Oil have the opportunity to draft this spring will not be able to step right into a top 6 role with the team. That very rarely happens, and we're not going to be getting MacKinnon or Drouin here (at least, I hope we don't finish that poorly). Horcoff resurgence? Ummm, no. Hemsky at center? You've got to be kidding me! He is even worse than Gags and Nuge at faceoffs and he's been playing on the wing in this league for like 7 years, he's not going to just switch positions and magically be good at it. His defensive style of play is not all suited for a centre either.
The only viable option you just mentioned is Hall. The team has said they want to try him at centre and I've noticed him taking the draws with Gagner or RNH also on the ice more than a few times lately. I've been saying that Gagner needs to move to the wing for a while now anyway. That being said, I would definitely be open to a Gagner for Gardiner deal. |

we all know he makes WAYY too much money, but thing is, we have no one that can fill his spot.
we find someone, we buy him out. but until then, hes an oiler. and another 18 year old in that spot or unproven kid aint the answer |

You may need to check the definition of elite in the dictionary. He's good but he's not that good. I don't understand why so many oilers fans think they can fix their roster by trading Ryan Whitney and Ales Hemsky. If you want a guy like Gardiner you will probably have to part ways with someone with an equally bright future. |

Furthermore I agree the Dipietro thing will 99.9% not happen..... However people that are desperate do desperate things.... After all the Oilers traded Gretzky because of Pocklington's money problems..... We all know the leafs have issues but deep pockets are not one of them..... I just wondered what other people thought $36 million was worth? I was going to a different thread so that I wasn't hearing from biased leaf fans.....

You have no idea how good/bad the Oil will finish the season. For all we know we could be getting 1st overall again... Trade any 1st rounder, just not this years |

elite skills. i stand by that comment.
injury prone and maddening to watch at times? for sure
it would most likely have to be a package of hemmer+ of course, but i also think gardiners value has to have dropped abit.
and again, i didnt take into account torontos needs. just threw a name out after explaining gags nor our first makes sense to the oilers for gardiner currently.
also, i wont be convinced that some of package of hemsky, marincin, klefbom, gernat our first etc doesnt get us an extremely quality piece |
