Stop the Press: Cloutier has once again gone out on a limb & said that all top, young players on the Oilers will NOT be moved at the deadline & duds or deadbeats(whatever you want to call them) like Smyth, Jones, Whitney, Eager, Belanger & Horcoff could be!!

WOW, fascinating, what a prediction, this Cloutier guy must have inside information because nobody else knew.

I mean, really, who would want the Oilers garbage & have to give up anything for them?? WOW!! Cloutier is the best!!

I never said that... Thought he was awesome for quite some time now.

was more a general comment directed to several oiler fans on this site....not necessarily to you specifically.

SEVERAL, and i mean SEVERAL, oiler fans (as well as leaf, habs, nucks, etc) have said for the last 2.5 years that "karlsson can't play D", "just another winger", "useless in his own end", blah, blah, blah

it's funny how you guys all said the same thing about karlsson for 2 years, and we told you that you just didn't watch him play, and didn't realize how good he was in his own end.

kind of funny when the shoe is on the other foot.

I think I hate Karlsson because @wheelingProblems has him as his Avatar. That and the fact he didn't text Cooke back after he apologized. But I have to admit, he's beyond talented. He's so good in his own end because he's probably the most skilled defender since like Coffee. His stick work, agility and positioning is unmatched; I can only hope JSchultz is half that good.

Horcoff, Belanger, Eager and Theo Peckham for Rick Dieptro, Ryan Strome and Travis Hamonic. And even at that, I think you might need to throw in Calvin de Haan or the Islanders 1st round pick too. $36mil is so much money.

I don't know what Clouts said about Gardiner, but I don't know that the Oil target him.

Sure we might place a call, but he is very raw and not really what this team needs to be spending assets on. We need a more proven guy, someone who is physical. Gardiner has some nice tools, but at this point I think we see what else is out there. Yet another young roster player is not the answer.

Cooke gets a lot of crap for things that happened a couple years ago. He definately was a POS, but you have to give him some credit for his change in attitude.

Anyone who watched the Leafs vs Jets game last night saw how completely inept the D-men were at breaking out of the zone. In the lineup they are currently playing, they don't have a d-man who can effectively skate the puck out of the zone. Because of this, they are attempting poor-percentage passes to break out of the zone. Winnipeg jumped all over that last night. I think after last nights debacle, you'll either see Liles, or Gardiner inserted into the lineup. Only problem is, I think Holzer is the only d-man who can be sent down without having to clear waivers, and since Liles is already on the roster, it'll probably be him. With Lupul back soon, the leafs have to clear this logjam somehow.

If the Leafs are planning on shipping out Liles and/or Komi, then they have to play before the deadline to at least showcase them to potential trade partners. I think Kostka and Holzer are out next game with Liles and Komi stepping in.

However, with the lack of puck mocing d-men on this team, I don't think they are going to trade Gardiner. At least not until they see what they have with Rielly.

If Gardiner is so good why is he not in the Leaf's line-up right now. Lets leave at, he's a good prospect.
- Champ

Only reason he's not with the Leafs is because they can't bring him up until they make a trade.

Carlyle is adament about not playing D on their weak-side.

Phaneuf, Gunnarson, Fraser and Gardiner are all LD.

Komi and Liles in press box but can't trade Komi and won't waive Liles.

Have to trade Gunnarson before Gardiner can come up - and Gunnar's fighting an injury which likely needs surgery in summer - harder to trade him.

If Whitney is only worth a 3rd, then no way Gardiner, who isnt even on the Leafs is worth a potential lotto pick 1st.

IMO, one season of a change in attitude doesn't make up for an entire career of dirty play.

gardiner has put 30pts in 75 games, while playing very very good in his own end. he's ATLEAST proven as much as schultz.......what is schultz worth?
- sensarmy_11

Relative to how you'd expect a rookie to play. He by no means was a revelation, but he was above average in his own end considering his rookie status and the horrendous style the Leafs incorporated under Wilson.

And don't you go tellin' me any different

Well technically he wasn't really a dirty player for his entire career. He played on the edge and under the rules for most of his career.

People praise Stevens for headshots on Lindros, yet Cooke who does the same is a scumbag.

cooke is a scum for his hits from behind, his elbows, etc....if you look at his hilight reel of dirty play (from pitt and van) open ice hits to the head make up a very small percentage of his douchebaggery

Do you see the minutes Beauchemin plays. The Duck would not be a Cup contender right now with Lupuk and Gardiner.

what about Lupul Gardiner and Schultz?

The sad thing is, for any owner that isn't a multi-national media giant or Bill freaking Gates, that's likely what it would take for some to pay $36 million just to buy our another team's horrendous contract. They would need to be absolutely blown-the-(frank)-away. Obviously I don't think that kind of deal would happen, but nor do I think Clouts thinks so either.

i CAN'T BELIEVE i'm about to side with leaf fans, but i think oiler fans are DRASTICALLY underestimating the value of gardiner.

i would say his value is similar to justin schultz. he might not be quite at the same level offensively (although he's close), but after having seen a few games by each now, i can confidently say that gardiner is much stronger in his own end.

so, whatever you think fair value for schultz would be, maybe take a TINY bit off, and that's what you'd have to pay for gardiner.

ewwwww, i feel so dirty
