The Dude should not be Pope. The Catholic Church has enough problems, they don't need rampant legal misconduct issues, poor money management, corruption charges...wait, nevermind. DYKSTRA FOR POPE! - jmatchett

Take two days off and talk to the Skip on the phone, then get back on the radio and name drop because you think you're part of the club. |

Your points all well taken, Im familiar with the circumstances surrounding Pelletier and bare in mind, this was the 1999 Flyers..The year of the Uber drama and nonsense galore Flyers..But I do see what your point is..That team had locker room garbage for DAYS . Again this is not a situation where you replace your starter, but more, one where both of your potential backups are in a state of flux between Philly/ADK and Neither is equipped with the tools to relieve our problems in net......The athletes with the proper mentality and temperment(Especially goalies) THRIVE under pressure...I tend to think, as much malaise as there is on this team, a young goalkeeper wouldn't endure such abuse as did JM Pelletier.... and as for Dryden, He was one of THE reasons for the cup championship(s) He didn't merely benefit from that Habs team(Brilliant tho they were), he was a direct contributor. - HigginzMask
As for Dryden, I think it went hand-in-hand. He was a great goalie, put in a position with a oood team in front of him that was mutually beneficial to both of them.
I guess the most recent Flyers-related scenario would be Johan Backlund's game against Pittsburgh during the 09/10 season. He wasn't awful, and I think the team actually had a lead at some point. Of course, he got hurt after 40 minutes...if they want to call up Heeter as a backup I'm okay with that, give him a taste of the NHL. But I don't know if I'd want him to start unless Bryz needed the day off. |

You got the wrong guy, man...I'm The Dude. - Jsaquella
You dare impersonate The Dude?
Interesting story about Mr. The Dude:
He was getting into his car after a game and a fan ran up to him with a baseball bat and a sharpie. He told Dykstra that his son was a huge fan, and asked if Lenny would sign the bat for him. Dykstra said yes, took the bat and sharpie, scribbled on it, handed the bat back to the guy, smiled, got in his car and drove off. When the guy looked at the bat, this is what it said:
"Go F--k yourself, Lenny Dykstra"
I got some Pat the Bat stories, but can't post them on here. |

Backlund played in Sweden. HadHeeter looked better in the AHL, I'd be interested in thinking about him, but he hasn't been great there. No need to rush him. |

Just an update if anyone's interested:
Scott Laughton has 55 points in 45 games and is a +23 (career highs in G/A/Pts/+-). That puts him on pace for 75 points had he played all 65 games so far (missed games due to callup/suspension) which would put him in the Top 20. There are 3 games remaining in his OHL regular season.
Shayne Gostisbehere has career highs in goals (6) and points (23) this season at Union College despite playing 11 fewer games than he did last year.
Edit: Can't type today...Scoot Laughton... - jmatchett
I dont see Homer doing much other than trading the 2nd pick for an expensive D man |

Why? - mayorofangrytown
Because I like to write and it's for a literary magazine. I think it would be funny to take the ridiculousness of Philly sports media and line it up with a serious event like the Constitutional Convention. |
