of course it was, he is Bryz. anyone else says that and they would be lauded - nastyflyergirl
Well, Briere said that every game was like a playoff game. So that means we can expect about 13 goals and a -5 for him over the remainder of the year. |

Not trying to start a rumor but does anyone think Gus getting sent down has anything to it, other then the normal reasons to be sent down...it just kinda surprised me - nonpoint22
Who's to say? Could be something to it, despite protestations to the contrary.
It's not like his play was so great that I felt it warranted demotion, but he wasn't really lighting it up either. He was a healthy scratch on merit, I thought. |

Not being facetious, but I'd totally take that from Briere. |

Briere said basically the same thing, slightly differently, but essentially that the Flyers are in the playoffs now. |

That sounds about right. When Briere is on the ice the pucks tend to fly into the nets at both ends of the ice. |

the Flyers aren't the only team that plays that way.
More than anything, I hate that they send 3 guys in deep, sometimes all 3 below the damn goal line, in the O zone - nastyflyergirl
This actually works if you have the puck.
Too often they send three guys in when the other team has full control of the puck and is ready to break out to the neutral zone...
and then its Bryz vs oddman rush time, which has been not so much fun this year. |

Handful of reasons:
1. With a healthy Meszaros, there's 8 defensemen on the roster
2. Gustafsson is waivers exempt, where Foster and Gervias would have to clear.
3. Clears a roster spot for Harry Z to burn a couple games off his sentence - Jsaquella
Well put thanks...just wondering |

Actually I got a 4th, too
If Gus is sent down he can play a ton of minutes. That won't be a bad thing. |

On the plus side for Foster, it would represent the first time he's cleared anything this year. |

Bill I have a question for you..
The system Lavy runs, does this also include the way our forwards collapse low in our end? Seems the teams we play have very good puck possession in our end due to alot of them figuring out that their teams D-men are allowed so much time at the points. I know we block alot of those shot attempts, but if you watch closely the amount of space they are allowed is crazy. Why not pressure these point men instead of allowing them to keep firing pucks at the net withouit being harassed or atleast have the forwards stay high on them? - Buzzo
Other teams do that in reverse to the Flyers, too, bottling things up down low and pretty much daring them to get shots through from the points.

The Flyers spend so much time in their own end due to a number of reasons. The biggest reason is the lack of back pressure and neutral zone checking. Teams have free skates, wide open passing lanes, and easy entries into the Flyers zone.
With the current defensive zone coverage scheme that the Flyers are using. Where when the puck is deep, both defenseman, and the first forward back are down low, trying to outnumber the opposition on the puck. The two remaining forwards have to drop down off of the points to cover the slot area and around the net, when the puck is deep below the goal line or in the corners. |

If the Flyers win these two and make the play offs, you could say that Brayden Schenn's save of the game tying goal against the Sabres was the turning point in the season. - Marc D
Hmmm, interesting. Never thought about that, could be very possible. |

you really need to be hard on the puck and play with a lot of energy. and that hasn't been happening consistently this year. |

Just an update if anyone's interested:
Scott Laughton has 55 points in 45 games and is a +23 (career highs in G/A/Pts/+-). That puts him on pace for 75 points had he played all 65 games so far (missed games due to callup/suspension) which would put him in the Top 20. There are 3 games remaining in his OHL regular season.
Shayne Gostisbehere has career highs in goals (6) and points (23) this season at Union College despite playing 11 fewer games than he did last year.
Edit: Can't type today...Scoot Laughton... |
