Not gonna pull Bryz now but we pulled him in Pittsburgh?! Come the (frank) on - JoeRussomanno
That's just it. They shouldn't have in the Pens game and they should tonight. Ridiculous. |

JVR would certainly fix the team defensive issues that his team has, and the reasons why they are a bad team. The second sentence is just flat out ridiculous. - MJL
Luke is still maturing and will be solid and JVR didn`t have the opp at the time, great trade for both teams. |

Holmgren gave up one of the biggest assets for a one dimensional d-man.
Threw out money for FA but once that failed, do not tell me the best he could have done is bring in Luke Schenn, Foster and Gervais. The Flyers will always have to overpay for talented d-men. They will have to do so now, they will have had to then. - flyer_nutter
He probably could have. But any other off season, he lands one of Suter or Weber and there's a much smaller issue.
But he couldn't do anything about it after September. Laviolette had all winter to formulate tweaks with the defense he had and did nothing that is readily apparent. |

Anyone who thinks this team is heading in the right direction is nuts. I didnt expect them to get beat this bad but I did figure they would lose b/c their not very good. |

Nutter, we're cool, but JVR for Schenn reversed means JVR is up front and Gervais and Foster are playing with maybe Wade Redden coming in. Not going to be a difference maker when this team is circling the drain nightly. - Flyskippy
I'm guessing he wanted a "better" defenseman than Schenn. Or a more offensive guy. This team would suck worse without Schenn on D, even if they had JVR. I think the fact that the JVR/Schenn trade was rumored for a while and took a while to make (even with JVR's injuries last year) means Holmgren probably talked to a lot of teams about it. I think ultimately, he really did get the best he could for JVR. That may simply be the reality of the situation, and not some fantasy land where they should have gotten Pietrangelo or something for JVR+ |

Skip, at the same time you give up JVR in a very risky trade. JVR showed to have potential to be a game changer.
Luke Schenn was always going to be a one dimensional d-man. Even at the time I think many of us saw it as giving up one of the best assets in a very arguable trade.
Holmgren should face a lot of heat here as well. He has made some good moves, but a lot of bad ones as well. |

No its all good. I'm fine with everyone on here, expect those looking to debate for no other reason than that.
Just a frustrating time to be a fan. At the end of the day, I put the blame everywhere. On everyone. |

How about not giving up JVR for a one dimensional d-man?
I think its time to admit the Flyers got their ass felt up on that deal. Gave up a big asset.
I am not Holmgren, and do not have his contacts, but I find it a little hard to believe the best he could do was Luke Schenn, Foster and Gervais.
Flyers have scored no 3rd period goals in last 6 games. - flyer_nutter
Ouch. No shot I will admit to any ass feelings. JvR has how many dimensions?
Defensive defenseman take the longest to develop in my opinion, even longer than goalies. I'd give Schenn at least till he is 28 until I declare any winners on that trade. But to call Schenn one dimensional and not even mention JvRs vast hockey "dimensions" is laughable at best. |
