Just an update if anyone's interested:

Scott Laughton has 55 points in 45 games and is a +23 (career highs in G/A/Pts/+-). That puts him on pace for 75 points had he played all 65 games so far (missed games due to callup/suspension) which would put him in the Top 20. There are 3 games remaining in his OHL regular season.

Shayne Gostisbehere has career highs in goals (6) and points (23) this season at Union College despite playing 11 fewer games than he did last year.

The Flyers spend so much time in their own end due to a number of reasons. The biggest reason is the lack of back pressure and neutral zone checking. Teams have free skates, wide open passing lanes, and easy entries into the Flyers zone.
With the current defensive zone coverage scheme that the Flyers are using. Where when the puck is deep, both defenseman, and the first forward back are down low,trying to outnumber the opposition on the puck. The two remaining forwards have to drop down off of the points to cover the slot area and around the net, when the puck is deep below the goal line or in the corners.

One of the things I liked in the Buffalo game was it seemed the Flyers were getting sticks on pucks and disrupting the passing lanes as well as the shooting lanes. But that could be that however bad we've been playing Buffalo has been worse and had little to no puck support.

Probably not, and may never be able to match his defensive game either. Just giving an update.

Good to know. I've been hoping that Gostisbehere would turn out well... and that he'd hit a late growth spurt. But with his success with Team USA and all, I think he was a very shrewd draft pick and hopefully a future Enstrom type offensive D-man.

So a projected 75 points over 65 games or an actual 96 points in 58 games.

Laughton couldn't match Couturier's production in junior, after Couturier had mono.

Buffalo dispatched the Rags in short order last night, while playing their backup goaltender. Tortorella didn't make the necessary adjustments.

It's incredible. If Terry Murray or Stevens had posted a 5-17-1 record vs two divisional rivals, you be screaming for their head, and we'd never hear the end of their ineptitude.

That just means he'll score circles around him in the pros

the Flyers aren't the only team that plays that way.

More than anything, I hate that they send 3 guys in deep, sometimes all 3 below the damn goal line, in the O zone

I hate that as well. I also hate the way our defense goes after loose pucks in our own zone. I hate that as well. I also hate the way our defense goes after loose pucks in our own zone. Rather than moving it out of the zone immediately our D men often trap it against the wall for a few seconds ... seemingly waiting for an attacking forward to come in and battle them for it. I just don't get that approach at all.

Bill Barber and Bob Kelly used to do that, but it was usually followed by an elbow to the jaw of the guy attempting to check them.

This is the season, right here.

They lose these two games, they're dead. If they win both there's some hope.

They can't afford to lose more than 4 or 5 more games in regulation over the rest of the season. They drop these two, besides continuing the futility vs New Jersey, they piss away 4 vital points.

If they lose the next 2, trade whoever you can cause the season is over. May as well start giving Bryz lots of rest and get those backups some work to cause the only thing that will left to look forward to is the draft lottery.

Right because Alexander Daigle scored how many goals and had how many points in junior? Guy didn't have a stellar NHL career by a long shot Big time success in junior doesn't always equal success in the NHL, either scoring or on the defensive side. There are always examples of average players in junior hockey that became bonafide NHL stars too. It works both ways! I wouldn't guesstimate or compare the two until Laughton has played two NHL seasons...

I notice it more with the defense than the forwards. The forwards seem to turn and try to move the puck in a split second. The defense seems to delay for a few seconds, as if they're petrified of making a mistake. Unfortunately this usually allows the attacking forwards to pin them in.
