It's often been said (probably just by me) that the biggest reason why Coburn never became a true top pairing guy was because of his head. - bradleyc4
the ability to get a shot on net occasionally would help him in this regard as well |

Outside of Giroux, who has made an impact from that draft? - Jsaquella
Outside of their first round pick in any of the last 12 drafts who has made an impact? |

How'd it work out after that? I'm sure when they drafted Giroux they were thinking, "We'll get those Sabres!!!" - mayorofangrytown
actually the point is they decided to go with small quick guys opposed to guys with size which is all fine and good but they always seem to react to the past season. I'd like to have a mix of all of course but that said, given the choice is skilled big guys vs skilled small guys, I take the guy with size if all things equal talent wise. |

The solution is easy. Develop a plan, stick to that plan. Don't change it in two years when a team uses something different than NJ to eliminate you in the playoffs.
The Flyers spend too much time trying to win last year's Stanley Cup, have been for years. - Jsaquella

They always take the best available player that's why Couturier is here instead of Hamilton. They took 10 players in 2006 and three of them are listed at 5'11" and one of those is Giroux. The rest are 6' or over. They didn't draft in 2006 because of the Sbares and the trend to take smaller players was league wide and indicative of the new rules on clutching and grabbing and not some reaction by all the teams (yes even the Flyers) to the Sabres success(?) in the 2006 season in the playoffs.
They also didn't become the Devils and they didn't become anyone else in reaction to a playoff loss. |

What does that have to do with their draft success or failure? How has changing course affected their drafting success? I don't even get what you're saying or how it's at all relatable. |

So in your opinion they drafted in 2006 because of a loss to the Sabres in the playoffs?
I find that mind boggling. |

After they lose to the Devils tomorrow night, they have one game in 8 days. They will be so far buried in the standings you will need a microscope to find Coburn's nose. |
