This might sound crazy, but...the feeling in Vancouver has shifted, and it looks like Luongo is the new Cory Schneider, who was the heir apparent to Bobby Lu. So it turns out that Luongo's heir was Luongo. Do you think the Flyers could look into trading something (Briere+Coburn?) for Schneider? I'm not blaming Bryz, but since the team isn't looking like it's going to be a Cup contender any time soon, it might make more sense to buy him out, if only to get a good young goalie that the team can grow with?
And yes, that would have been Bob, but..... - jmatchett
I still think the Nucks will trade Luongo in the offseason. Schneider's future is too bright and Lu's contract is too big. |

You think the Flyers would be willing to pay him almost $18 million to make him go away?
That would probably make him the happiest guy on earth.
Hell, when you put it that way, I'd be playing for the buyout next year if I was him.
It's going to be an interesting summer next year for buyouts. I'm guessing a lot of teams will use up one strike this year, and save the other one for next.
And in case you were wondering about the Leafs, Komisarek will be gone. Second one is currently awaiting Liles (but not a foregone conclusion) or maybe even Grabovski (in summer of 2014, and only if they can get a centre to replace him). - Atomic Wedgie

Actually, he's going to retire and head a little south to join the former members of one of my favorite bands from the Seattle area to re-form it: Poor Old Lu. |

I think they would pay him his buyout and they have the money IF they decide he is not the solution.
He could do very well in a more defensive system and stay here too. He has shown he is capable of some very good play for 3-4 week stretches this year and last for the Flyers.
I'm a little surprised Liles wouldn't have some trade value to somebody. |

If they trade Coburn I think it makes more sense to get back an offensive defenseman.
I wouldn't mind Schneider.
I guess Van might want to dump Ballard off in a trade, but not sure a deal with Philly is the best fit. - Marc D
Don't think Vancouver is our best fit. Realitically, I'd honestly try and wait until the summer. Unless there is a big deal to be had now that works well for both teams, it's useless. It's not like we're gonna see the team reel off win after win... I think Holmgren does his thing this summer and re-adjusts the projections and expectations for this team and acquires pieces we desperately need.

Unreal. Party like it's 2006-2007 - PLindbergh31
The only thing I can recall being entertaining that year was the dance stylings of Shawny Hill.
Which, he parlayed into a full time gig with the team. |

What does that have to do with their draft success or failure? How has changing course affected their drafting success? I don't even get what you're saying or how it's at all relatable. - mayorofangrytown
I'm saying that they are too reactionary. Like when the third pair looks bad, they run out and trade 2 2d rounders for a 5th defenseman making $4mm per year.
Or when the coach buries the young project goalie with talent after a bad period in the playoffs they run out and sign a big name free agent to a 9 year deal that they're having buyers remorse on less than 2 years later.

If it makes you feel any better, the general consensus in Toronto is the Flyers' main problem is Luke Schenn.

They could sell some players if the right deal comes along.
I wouldn't trade Coburn or any other of the top five dmen unless they are blown away. |

You want my answer now, or after we get pasted 6-2 by the Pens tonight?
Right now, we are all trying really really hard not to panic.
Yeah, you know how hard that works.
I'm reminded of what is was like in Boston before the curse of the Bambino was lifted:
Gorgeous July day. Not a cloud in the sky. Bosox in first place, 14 games ahead of the Yankees. Top of the 5th inning, Bosox up 4-2. Opposition batter hits a slow one to the shortstop, which the shortstop bobbles.
And everyone under their breath mutters, "Oh, Lord, here it comes."
And you knew it was coming. You could feel it.
So yeah, panic is just around the corner. |

So you're saying now what I said the first time I posted which you've been arguing with...
Nothing identifies a teams weakness more than the playoffs.
Are you saying after we're eliminated and that weakness is exposed we should not address it and instead keep to the plan that they've laid out?
If you're saying they make poor decisions (over react) in addressing those problems than okay, I'm with you.
After the Cup run they were obviously shallow on D and I thought they did a decent job taking care of that. The next season there appeared to be a weakness in goal and they threw the bank at Bryzgalof and discarded Bobrovsky. I thought that was a mistake/over reaction.
I thought the Richards/Carter thing was a personnel decision based on met expectations vs. character. |

Yes, and it's always portrayed by Snider or Clarke or Holmgren saying that they have to be more like whichever team beat them the previous season, which usually results in a half-ass shift to ape some of what that team is doing. |

Before his concussion last year, I was loving him. I confess I didn't know a lot about him before he arrived (I don't really follow western conference) but he was amazing. When he got out of position, he had the speed to get back in.
After the concussion, he just hasn't been the same guy. |
