Should have traded him to the Habs and acquired my favourite dman in the league, PK Subban. Should have offered in a 5.5 mil contract offer and made the Habs match or lose him. Have you seen Subban lately, totally off the charts. If there was any truth to that Couts plus for Subban it should have been a done deal.

the free agency crop for dmen and goalies is very thin after this season but much better after next. of course a lot of guys will be signed between July 1 and next June 30th.

Probably a ton. But, at the same time, you'd lose Giroux. He hasn't played as well this year as last year. But he's still averaging just under a point per game.

Yeah no more head injuries for me thanks. I think I've knocked myself unconscious in crazy ways at least 4 times during my life... My favorite was on a wet metal fire escape, I can still remember how loud the ringing in my head was. And how the vibration of my body falling down those flights of stairs reverberated and grew with the sound and the darkness... And then I'm picking myself up off the landing... Yeah it sticks with ya...

It's always been the opinion of the board. That the Flyers have had trouble drafting and developing defenseman isn't exactly a new concept. And I was under the impression that the discussion was about what's happening in 2013, not 2011. Maybe we should go back and post in that thread?
Let's look at the results. One off season he didn't get the guy. For how long now, before this Season, has Holmgrem iced a very good defense. Should we again go over all the defenseman that Holmgren has added to this team. One off season the defense fell short. I'll say the same thing again that I've said multiple times. Give the GM a chance to fix it. He's prove over time that he can.

Yeah I think that this is all just fan imagining "what if" right now. It's be crazy for Homer to do such a thing. But he's not predicatble which is one of the reasons he makes a good GM. (Not perfect but not poop either)...

Giroux should not even be mentioned in trade, he has not been the same this year but we all know he can and will get it back one day. Other moves need to made like replacing Laviolette for starters. Meszaros, Foster, Briere, Knuble, Gervais and Boucher all have to go. Get a 1A backup goaltender to help out Bryz and the team. Management sucks right now and they have to replace Lavy if they have any chance of getting out of this funk. Bring in Ruff for the remainder of the year and find a new head coach in the off season. Ruff will at least wake these guys up.

I cried for subban all off season. No way were getting him now unless he hoes to fa. Hopefully he holds it against Montreal that they lowballed him on this contract. His play right now makes Habs look stupid

They are in year two of a rebuild. They can add defensemen or goalies in free agency and trades, to answer your question. They can be patient and not trade picks, so they have the ability to draft players.

He has done a good job replacing big name players (Richards, Carter) with very good young players with much cheaper cap hits (Voracek, B. Scheen, Simmonds, Couturier). The organizational philosophy does need to change with how they draft defensemen and goalies though.

The problem with hiring Ruff is that he's not going to come in for a month and a half. He's going to want a multiple year deal. I don't want to lock myself in with any coach right now.

Not to sound panicked or negative but at what point does philly let the thought of trading g creep into their minds? Return would be huge and wouldn't have to worry about his next big contract. Yes things are getting that bad. I mean this team need to redo all their d except maybe schenn and grossman. Thoughts???

I am not either and that is why I say for the balance of the season. Ruff demands hard work and accountability, ie Vanek. Coaches have a shelf life and Lavi is done here and Ruff was done in Buffalo, does not mean they are bad coaches.

Didn't see the bit about trading G. This year the free agent crop of dmen and goalies is not very good. Through the draft would be ideal, but like I said they do a poor job drafting dman and goalies and even when they do they are not patient enough to let them develop. Too trigger happy and it starts at the top with Mr. Snider!

Should we use a compliance buyout on Giroux?
