I've never been to a game in Philly but I do wonder what the atmosphere is at the games.
Seems a lot quieter on TV than in years past. Lot of complaining? - flyer_nutter
Lots of the old guard left after the 2004-05 lockout. Lots of corporate types started entering the scene upon the opening of the CoreStates (now Wells Fargo) Center, but that seemed to change each year with the playoffs' start. All of a sudden it was like the old guard was back.
That's my understanding of it based on my attendance there and that of my wife's family, who have been season ticket holders since 1968-69, after buying walk-up tickets from time to time the first season.

I think Coburn's game suffered after he was hit in the eye in the 2008 playoffs. He seemed to become less aggressive, to me, both in terms of carrying the puck with confidence up ice, being physical (though Grossmann's partnership seemed to bring a bit of that back), and being an offensive threat. - Flyskippy
He just seems to be overtaken and lost in Dol Guldur far too often.

There was an article on twitter. I'll see if I can find it. Homer went into locker room and called out the players. Said it wasnt the coaches fault. - stveshdy
Tommorow is a huge game.
Really looking forward to how everyone responds
I'm going to take the night off from studying completely, get naked, grab some drinks, food, and get wild

Sounds like a plan. The Flyers are a long shot to make the playoffs. This team would have to win 13 games (which might not be enough) just to have a chance here down the stretch.

Thought i read somewhere that the Flyers would need to win something like 16 out of 20 games to get in....I dont see how that will happen
Not sure, I do know that I'd actively shop Danny Briere, Simon Gagne and Rusty Fedotenko and listen to offers for Scott Hartnell, Max Talbot, Bryadon Coburn and Andrej Meszaros.
Not that I'd trade the latter four, but I'd be interested to see what I could get in return - Jsaquella
i'd agree with all of that
i'm definitely not trying to start a "trade coburn" campaign. i think you have to be gauging interest though

Really looking forward to the desolation of smaug.
Dwarves were by far my favourite race in all of middle earth. The scene with Gimli blowing the horn of helm hammerhand always sends chills down my back.
I have a pic from his gravesite and a Rings inspired tattoo on one of my shoulders.
Finally I read either the full 3 books or some selection of the history every summer. - opeth_pa
I really liked Children of Hurin. To flesh out the story from the Silmarillion and present a tragedy to the Middle Earth milieu made the backstory of Lord of the Rings all the more stronger, IMO. One could feel Frodo's contemporaries' empathy of these characters more after reading it.
Our boy Bob is putting on a clinic vs the Hawks happy for him.... but what a stupid move by Homer so tired of seeing our prospects traded away only to watch them excel elsewhere.

The books hit me harder than the films. The films are like an almost-walk in Middle Earth. Peter Jackson couldn't be bothered to end LOTR properly with the scouring of the Shire but could stretch the Hobbit out to three movies? Feh. (not a typo)
Coburn is a 28 year old top 4 defenseman who is locked up for a few years at a solid cap figure. I would think Ottawa, Detroit, St. Louis, Columbus if they remain in the hunt could be potential suitors.
Coburn should be able to net a 1st round and a young player (not a hot prospect) but decent contributor. I just don't know if moving him would be a good thing for this defense corps. Who's replacing him? - sulshawn
i hear ya. definitely not an easy call. just think it's an idea worth kicking around. and hopefully homer's at least seeing how much interest there is

So much Tolkien talk..it's great..

Ive read the Fellowship, Two Towers and Return of the King. As well as the hobbit. I know there are other books but I dont have the time. Even my poops are rushed these days. I know many dont agree, but the movies to me made me fall in love even more. They made middle earth what it is.
On a sidenote, I always pictured myself to be somewhat of a mixture of Gimli/Theoden.

Honestly from an entertainment scenario I can understand why they left out Tom along with the scouring. Neither really annoyed me that much. - opeth_pa
Both annoyed me, as a LOTR fan. However, judging them just as movies, they're fantastic. Jackson truly captured the spirit of the Shire, at any rate. After leaving the Shire is where he missed marks of Tolkien's work - mostly his themes.
