Both annoyed me, as a LOTR fan. However, judging them just as movies, they're fantastic. Jackson truly captured the spirit of the Shire, at any rate. After leaving the Shire is where he missed marks of Tolkien's work - mostly his themes. - Flyskippy
No doubt but he couldn't go in and make a fanboy type trilogy. Maybe hardcore fans like us would have wished for Tom to be in it but the reality of it is, neither he nor the scouring was needed to convey the story to the masses.

I think Jackson has done a good job, at least from my reading of the books there is so much involved. Hard to get it all into a movie. Books just have an ability to make people think in ways movies never can imo.
I do not like that the unexpected journey (hobbit) was in 3D. I waited a couple weeks to see it without those stupid glasses. Despise 3D. |

Everyone is on the table for the right price. However, try to get a 3,4 and 5 for Briere, gagne, Feds. Any combo. - jstross
Blasphemer!
Pitbull , Giroux and Voracek should not be on the table unless you are getting Citibank climbing chick for them. |

He has turned into a very good goalie in Columbus. He gives them a chance to win every night. - Oneonta Penguin
Most thought he'd be a solid goalie I thought? If you're not going to use him though the picks were a good return. |

So you wouldn't trade G for Weber, renna, a 1st and cap relief? |

That is true, if someone makes you an offer you can't refuse, take it. But the only player I'd be looking to trade at the deadline is Briere.

In keeping with the current conversation. I'm still pissed about the 1969 NHL entry Draft when the Flyers chose Bob Currier. I really wanted them to take Ivan Boldirev. Still haven't gotten over it. And they also screwed up in rounds 3 and 4 by not taking Butch Goring. This Organization will never learn. - MJL

I really liked Children of Hurin. To flesh out the story from the Silmarillion and present a tragedy to the Middle Earth milieu made the backstory of Lord of the Rings all the more stronger, IMO. One could feel Frodo's contemporaries' empathy of these characters more after reading it. - Flyskippy
is this written by JRR or someone else?

I really liked Bobo. I was sorry the feeling wasn't mutual. |

Taking an over paid player. For example : id trade G and Bryz for Weber and PR in a heart beat. |

I realize Nashville wouldn't touch that deal. |

So much Tolkien talk..it's great..
I have a pic from his gravesite and a Rings inspired tattoo on one of my shoulders.
Finally I read either the full 3 books or some selection of the history every summer. - opeth_pa
I am on Weathertop right now. M. F'in Black Riders are closing in from the east and west. Frodo just got done whining about his burden and now Strider is telling elf stories by the firelight.

Really looking forward to the desolation of smaug.
Dwarves were by far my favourite race in all of middle earth. The scene with Gimli blowing the horn of helm hammerhand always sends chills down my back. - flyer_nutter
Honestly, I thought the first installation of the Hobbit movie blew. I saw the 3d version, and to me, the whole thing just seemed like a one excuse after another to CGI the poop out of something. Disliked it so much, I was inspired to read the book again to wipe the thing out of my mind. (I also really wanted to read it to my 3.5 year old).
Have you guys seen the 2D version? I am tempted to give it another chance in 2D...but I'll be pretty frustrated if I have to go back and hit the book again before I finish LOTR. As I mentioned to Skip last night, Unfinished Tales is next on my list. Never read it and the back stories in there seem intriguing. |
