I'll repost the same reply I did earlier. The FLyers drafting philosophy is to draft the best player available. Regardless of position or Country of Origin. - MJL
I'm going to need another bowl of popcorn at this rate. Sheesh. Their drafting strategy has been known for years. And their drafting of Dmen this past year has been conveniently ignored. |

Let me elaborate:
The Flyers like Canadian players.
Canadian minor hockey has a different philosophy on forwards than the rest of the world: in Canada, your best forwards play centre. Period.
Think of the greatest centres of the past 25 years: Gretzky, Lemieux, Sakic, Yzerman, etc. All Canadians.
Think of the greatest wingers of the last 25 years: off the top of my head, it's hard to think of Canadians. Kariya?
2nd case in point: think of every time Canada assembles a national team. They always take centres and put them on the wings.
Flyers like Canadians. Flyers like drafting forwards. So Flyers draft Canadian centres. - Atomic Wedgie

There are only 2 ways the Flyers win tonight
1. Bryz has the game of his life
2. Hedberg is awful
The Flyers are a dysfunctional team right now. They are trying to hard and making terrible mistakes. They will lose tonight and probably Sunday against Tampa too. Expect a press conference to announce a new coach on Monday. - BiggE
Guarantee they don't lose sunday. |

I like the Timonen/Schenn pairing. I don't think skating is an issue for either player. And if the Flyers feel that Gustafsson is struggling for whatever reason. Then they did the right thing by sending him down. This is not a good situation for a struggling young defenseman. - MJL
But it's a good situation for Couturier to continue to struggle? |

Well they didn't draft Dougie Hamilton.

Homer has issues with drafting Dmen for the phantoms but will go and sign these wretched Dmen from other organizations. He had the chance to draft Dmen the last couple years and opted for centermen. I feel the organization has this belief they are going to draft the next Bob Clarke and that the center position is the most important. - vejim

The Flyers were up on their skates, especially to start the game. But the structure just isn't there. And as much as I think he's a moron at times. Mike Milbury's description of the Flyers was perfect. They are recklessly aggressive. - MJL
not the first 5 minutes. they had a LOUSY first shift, followed by a 2 on 1 Bryz save, and then failed clear for the elias goal less than 3 minutes into the game. they were asleep at the start. rinaldo got them going by drawing a penalty, and then another one where they tallied. |

In the past ten years, four teams have won as many as 10 playoff series.
One of them is the Flyers. The only team with more playoff series wins than the Flyers is the Red Wings.
So, yeah, it kinda is working. |

The problems with the defense are largely caused by the system and the lack of effective two way play by the forwards
Of course that would require bringing some depth to the conversation and your contributions are generally as deep as a teaspoon
See, I can make a one liner, too. |

They made the same usual mistakes. But they still came out up on their skates, and with jump.

There are at least 3 people influencing their direction: Snider, Homer, & Lavi. They can't all be on the same page if the owner is dictating to the GM and the owner & GM are dictating to the coach. Another reason the coach needs to change: either the game plan or the person himself.
I am curious to (but will never) know what would've happened in 2011 had the Flyers stuck with Bob & got a backup instead of signing Bryz. - Flyskippy
Exactly. What they did to Bob will never make any sense to me. |

You would think not, with Tampa having lost Lacavalier and playing their 3rd game in 4 nights. However, the Flyers look to me like a team that will play well at times, but they just seem to find a way to lose. I really hope I'm wrong, but..... |
