Bobrovsky has a .927 save %, Mason the backup in Columbus in 10 starts has an .897 save %. How do you explain the stark differences?

All of a sudden Columbus is a defensive stalwart team? I find that pretty amusing.

- PLindbergh31

I'm not saying Columbus is this great defensive team, I'm saying that the there would be a big difference in the quality of shots faced if Bob were here. Especially considering how recklessly aggressive the Flyers are.

Not to take anything away from Bob, but do you really think he'd post those numbers with the Flyers?

It's either that, or politely ask the other team to play like the Penguins.
- MJL

I'd settle for responsible puck possession on the PP when Kovalchuk's on the ice.

Would he post a .927 save % with this current Flyers team? I don't know the answer. It's a hypothetical question. I would lean towards no.

Would he be able to post a save % better than .896%?, again hypothetical, but I believe the answer is yes.

6-on-0, Hedberg with the one-timer goal?
- jmatchett

I'm assuming that there's never been a 5 on 0 break ... but I could see the Flyers being the first team to let one happen.

I don't disagree that he might post better numbers than Bryz. When Bob was here he was sometimes great, and sometimes not so great. But it's possible.

But, still, with the way we've been letting up chances, no matter who is in net their save pct is gonna take a hit. I just don't think it's fair to compare goalies without also considering how their teams are playing defensively in front of them.

Couldn't agree more. On both counts!

Iceland had one against the USA in D2. Maybe we could replace Lavi with Wolf "The Dentist" Stanson.

who's the worst def team in the league? pick the worst 5....look at the goalie sv%. i haven't done this, but it prob gives a sketch of a reasonable discussion.

I generally agree with you. The thing that doesn't wash is the drastic difference in numbers between Bobrovsky and Mason.

I have said plenty of times with the amount of quality chances the Flyers allow, guys like Lundqvist would look mortal.

yeah, I hear you. Bob has definitely played well, and Mason not so much. We'll have to see if the numbers even out a bit as time goes on.

Sometimes teams just play better in front of certain goalies, too. In past years I always thought the Flyers played a bit better in front of Boosh than a lot of the other guys that have been here.

Only teams who have given up more goals against than the Flyers are the Islanders and Panthers.

Team save %'s

Islanders .890
Flyers .887
Panthers .878

Geez... .887%, those are numbers from the Gretzky era.

The pains of youth, not of a 32 year old with a 9 year 51 mil contract.

I've watched quite a few Columbus games. The difference in Bobrovsky and Mason is that Bob has almost totally eliminated soft goals. When the season started, Bob was playing great, but allowing a questionable goal or even two per game. Almost exactly what he did here in the 2010-11 season when the running joke was about shutouts, or "Bob Shutouts"

But he's been stellar of late, while Mason slipped quite a bit.

Thanks. I admit I'm not readily tuning into the B-Jackets games. So I see what the numbers are but don't have a feel for the performance.

I watched a few games early in the season when CI was free and now if they're on I tune in or try to find a good stream

Ryan Johanssen is going to be a damned good player.

I was hoping the Flyers could've wrangled him in the Carter trade.

They are definitely improved. I look at their roster and quite frankly don't know how. There isn't a bunch of talent on that team.

The little I have seen of Johanssen I was very impressed.

Ton of hockey sense, no idea why he sat last year. Howson was about to royally screw him up, but they brought him back up.

They work hard, but definitely lack top end talent. That will change now that they have a GM that knows how to draft.

And a GM that won't get raped in trades. Hard to believe all they have to show for the Carter and Nash trades are J. Johnson, Dubinsky, and Anisimov. That is criminal.
