For obvious reasons it would be hard for the Flyers to do any deal with Columbus for a goalie. I think the best solution is to get a good back up for Bryzgalov. I believe his play has fallen off because he is overworked and he is fatigued. If that does not work he can be bought out after next year. - spatso
He's also a bit frustrated with the team's play in front of him, if you ask me. They sure aren't making his job any easier.

Did anyone see Sheridan's and Seravalli's two articles on Lavy this am?

One say Holmgren gives a vote of confidence and the other says he is on the hot seat.
The hot seat one uses a bit more literary license and speculation, but really? They used the same dialog and came to two differing conclusions. - section32
Steps for firing a coach.
1. GM issues a statement, a vote of confidence in the coach.
2. Ownership issues similar statement. Says coach will be around for long time.
3. Announcement that coach has been relieved of duties.
4. Press conference to name new coach. |

The one thing the last game against the Devils did was help me sever my emotional attachment to this year so, I'm good with whatever happens tonight.
That said, who knows.....the Flyers, for the last few years, have refused to make commitments until the last possible second. You can't say if they are really out or really in yet, if they had lost both games this week I think you could but I fully expect they would be out of the playoff run. If they had won both I would say they were starting on a hot streak that would get them in.
Instead, they'll probably split so that i'm still wondering. |

It is time to do what 95% of the teams do around the league...live and die with your goalie...fix the rest of the team first before you even consider looking between the pipes. The only goalie situation the Flyers should consider is finding a good backup so Bryz doesnt play 81 games next year. I dont care what I tender says they do need a night off. |

Timonen is certainly not the player he used to be. But he's not done. He's still a pretty good player. And I'll be the first to admit that Coburn has underachieved. Overall with the exception of needing a top pair defenseman for the future. I like the makeup of this defense. I need to see a comprehensive and supportive team game, and then we'll find out what this defense has. It has some good elements to it. Hard to truly evaluate anybody with the Flyers team game in shambles. - MJL
I posted Wednesday night & Bill wrote in his blog that the Flyers are playing like a team but as many individuals. Along with the philosophy differences mentioned in my earlier post, the team is going in multiple directions at once - which many here have said too. I do hope for change tonight, but don't expect it. |

Addressing the game plan so that Bryz is facing chances of much less dangerous quantity & quality would go a long way to fixing things. |

Games played
Bryzgalov 26
Rask 19
Lundqvist 22
Price. 21
Fleury. 20
He is playing at one game a week more than his prime competitors in a very intense schedule. |

Agreed....15 2-1 and 3-1 a game are not a plan for success. |

This was my point about the whole backup situation....i mean seriously does Lavy think Bryz needs to play against the Isles or Panthers?....I'm sure Boosh or even Lights out Leighton could muster enough ahl stamina to win those. |

Problem is if other players don't have confidence in the back up they stop skating as soon as the first easy goal is given up. Players have to believe the goalie gives them a shot. You don't want the team to play a different game because no one has confidence in the goalie.

That can be attributed to a few reasons.
1. Flyers dug an early season hole
2. No credible backup goaltender

As noted on Tim P article...
The coach will be fired sooner or later, the guessing game is not even worth it right now.
Even when Lavy "adjusted" his system, the players still did not position themselves to win a lot of puck battles. Do you blame the coach? In the world of professional sports the coach will be the first to go before most of the players. It's reality.
As much as I will blame Lavy, the blame also rests on the players...there is only so much the coach can do.
Any of you who have coached a team from pro to amateur, you can put the players in the right place but it's up to them to play the game. The Flyers are not playing the game!!!
As for who they lost out on in the offseason...who gives a poop!!! It's done and over with and it's time to move. They have 20 games to make it happen.
Let's use the old cliche...It's a must win tonight.
Let's go Flyers!!!
Have a good Friday everyone.... |

Yes to both reasons. Also Flyers played more games than all other teams. Only makes need for good back up more urgent. |

the schedule the Flyers have had this year, you would believe they would've played their back up more...
what a mess... |

Yup. I suspect if the Flyers lose tonight we will start seeing Leighton once in a while. With the season shot no sense in running Bryzgalov into the ground. |

At this point, no goaltender would have much confidence playing behind this underachieving and porous team. |

You forgot the part where the organization thanks the old coach and says what a great job he did for the organization and the coach thanks the team for the time and opportunity. |

There are at least 3 people influencing their direction: Snider, Homer, & Lavi. They can't all be on the same page if the owner is dictating to the GM and the owner & GM are dictating to the coach. Another reason the coach needs to change: either the game plan or the person himself.
I am curious to (but will never) know what would've happened in 2011 had the Flyers stuck with Bob & got a backup instead of signing Bryz. - Flyskippy
i thought bringing in a young guy to compete with bob would have been a good alternative. kinda what the caps have done the last couple of yrs. |

Just listening to TSN radio (Toronto) and they did a review of coaches at risk of losing their jobs.
1. Guy Boucher.
2. Giavanni Tortarella

Not that I disagree with the move.. going out and getting an established #1 goalie is never a bad thing.. but had Lava hadnt been so spastic about his goalie choices, I dont know that Snider would have sent Homer on a goalie manhunt. |
