Not to be a jerk, but the problem with goalies in Philly is the way they are treated by the fanbase. Say what you will, every goalie in the world is not soul of stone Ron Hextall. Hockey players in general constantly give votes of confidence to their tenders. Reason: they need it. Keep hating Philly, keep hating. - nbartley9
Must be why Boucher kept wanting to come back and why Parent cried when he was traded the first time around. |

Fans could have given 2 turds about Bryz in PHX and he was a total beast. Just saying. |

maybe you have a point. Fans don't give a rats ass about Bobrovsky in C-Bus and he's rocking a stellar .927 save %. |

It's a little bit of everything. Coach/Players/GM. Everyone has equal share of the blame imo. Laying blame at the feet of any one person is being shortsighted. - PLindbergh31
No doubt. I also believe the lockout has played a part too. Too many players showed up not ready to play and the scheduled buried them to the point that they haven't been able to catch up to speed. Coburn is nowhere as bad as he has played this year. |

Some tenders and handle the booing and constant hate others cannot. Ask Bob in CBJ. |

Well, at least we know what's wrong with Fleury in the playoffs the last three years. Pittsburgh must just become a swarming hive of bumholes in the spring! |

The Flyers were one of the teams who had the most players playing in other leagues. I wouldn't use that as an excuse. Every team had the same amount of time to get ready for the season.
The schedule was a bear no question about it. |

Flyers had more players in Europe than any other team, coupled with several players on the Phantoms, combined with a brutal early schedule and you have another factor for the team's abysmal record. |

I can't; still don't think he knows more English than "Bob."
Also, what is your proof that the goaltenders in Philly can't handle the fans? Or are you looking for ban #7? |

There is more pressure playing in certain cities. If that was your overall point, I agree with it. |

If the Flyers (miraculously) go 14 - 6 down the stretch of these last 20 games and still miss the playoffs, you better believe they are going to publicly blame the lockout and whatever else. |

I dont really agree with you, but its not totally absurd. I think the people who have the big issue with the goalies is the media. Philly media in general (not all of them but the vast majority) are pot stirrers who really dont understand the sport. The are more interested in producing a negative "TMZ" like story than tyring focus on a good, hockey first, story.
Prime example was last year... Matt Read was in the midst of having a great rookie season, and yet casual fans who follow via newspaper, radio, internet, or TV sports shows really didnt even know him. Why? Simply because the media was to busy focusing on players going through slumps, or Bryz being Bryz. They made it nearly impossible to stomach Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, because again, most casual fans only knew that they partied.. Its the casual, WIP listening to idiots that cause these issues... and thats because they know what they hear and read. |

Hey now, I had alot of time to observe during my time away, and hatred is what I blame for Philly's goalie woes. |

The only defensemen that played at all during the lockout was Grossman. Also, I do believe playing in Europe was a detriment to some of those players. I doubt the checking was as tight in the German league as it is here, so I could see lazy habits creeping in and trying things that don't work at the NHL level that do in Europe. |

The media does drive a lot of the hatred. These clowns see a big contract for a goalie and it's immediate justification to shred a guy.
There's enough mouth breathing fans that listen to WIP or read the paper and think these clowns are experts and parrot what they say.

i thought bringing in a young guy to compete with bob would have been a good alternative. kinda what the caps have done the last couple of yrs. - isaiah520
When a Season goes bad, it's real easy to sit back and look at alternatives and what should have been done. And with this team, it's being done with it's current players, with trades from the past, with draft picks from the past. And with player moves from the off Season. Versus having to actually make those decisions ahead of time without the benefit of hindsight.
So the Flyers are inevitably going to be making some changes. Players, Coaches, whatever. And there will be a Draft next year. I'll give my assessment on those moves and critique them and offer criticism, a year or two later. When I can give my expert opinion on the mistakes they made. |
