I disagree with Laviolette benching Bobrovsky in the playoffs after a rough start. That being said, it doesn't necessitate a trade just because a high price goalie was brought in. Nothing wrong with having two guys in case of injury or if one falters. Salaries and cap hits be damned. - PLindbergh31
The trouble is, that Laviolette's handling of Bobrovsky also prevented the Flyers from sending him to the AHL where he would get enough work to develop.
In cases where teams have two good goalies, and one is high priced, the other goalie has a lot of experience in North America and on the smaller ice surfaces of the NHL.
Let's also not ignore that Bobrovsky could easily jump to the KHL rather than re-signing with the Flyers when his deal ended, knowing he'd be unlikely to get starts.
The bottom line is, Laviolette handling the situation better prevents the massive deal being handed to Bryzgalov and likely has Bobrovsky still here, probably paired with a solid veteran, splitting time. |

I understand what you are saying. I had a major issue two years ago pulling the plug on Bobrovsky because I felt he was the best option the Flyers had. I do not have issue with the way Laviolette handled the goaltenders last year. Bryzgalov's play at times warranted him being sat. The entire Flyers organization handled Bobrovsky incorrectly. That includes the coach, as well as the GM/Owner.
With Columbus joining the Flyers division this mistake has a chance of being magnified dramatically. If Columbus stayed in the West it's less of an issue.
My problem with it is if the Flyers buyout Bryzgalov, and again start the pain staking task of finding a goaltender, when the franchise guy may have been right under their noses. |

tomorrow is kimmo's 1000th game, right?
wonder if it was at home if the team wouldve given all the players #44 jerseys for warmups. i know they've done it in the past with flyers hall of famers, but i saw the Hawks did it with #81 Hossa jerseys for his 1000th this week |

Can someone tell me what Coburn is doing here? Holy (frank).... I didn't realize this when I saw it live.

I have no real issue with how the ice time was split last year. Bryzgalov struggled at times and Bobrovsky not only needed to play to stay sharp, but also because he was earning time.
And yes, ultimately the entire situation is the fault of the organization.
However, it started with Laviolette deciding that Boucher & Leighton were better options than Bobrovsky, who had a very solid rookie season, basically saying to the organization he had little faith in the kid. His further mishandling of the goalies was a public embarrassment to the owner, who ordered the GM publically to solve the issue.
Once it got to that point, saying that the team could carry Bobrovsky and Bryzgalov long term is being, at best, naïve. |

I can't tell if he lost an edge here, or if he dove, and feebly tried to pokecheck the puck from Loktionov. |

I definately have my own opinions and I frequent these comments all day long, year after year. I'm always checking for updates, rumors and just good hockey talk from fellow Flyers/hockey fans. Not sure why I don't say much. I guess that to me is a lurker (and why I call myself one) I'm always here... just never post. - mikel33
There are more like you than anyone knows......I like u am a lurker and proud of it....better than a blowhard that needs to comment on everything and is all knowing on every topic and every issue.
Make a comment here or there, true, but would rather read good hockey talk from well thought out posts.....we have some good posters like Jasq., MTL, flyskippy, exclund and the like but we have lost great posters like busty b/c some of the nonsense that goes on in here.....

Just fugly. Knew it was gonna be bad as soon as they gained the zone, but he took it to a new level of WTF |

I suppose we will have plenty of time to debate it ad nauseum next year. If Bobrovsky is standing on his head beating the Flyers it outta be a real hoot around here. |

Eagles with some good signings. I like Barwin. I hate losing Kenny Phillips to the Birds... Guy is a stud when he can stay on the field. |

Game was over at that point anyway. Coburn has been a real disappointment this year. With no Meszaros Flyers really needed him to step up and he's played poorly. I thought he played one of his better games Friday night, hopefully he can build on that. |

True enough. Hopefully the Flyers will be playing well enough to make it a moot point |

He did play better on Friday. It's just become painfully obvious that he can't be the anchor of a pair with a less talented defenseman. Get him with a guy like Grossmann or Timonen and he does fine, for the most part. But if he has to carry a partner, he plays like he's lost, or at least like he's trying to do too much |
