I'm not saying he's a bust. Even before he was drafted nobody had him pegged as a star in this league. Scouts figured him to be a good scoring winger but he was always a high risk player is that who you want to build around? - Sabresfan-365
No you build around Grigorenko. Like the Flyers did by building around Giroux. They traded Carter and Richards and got under preforming high first round picks that were on horrible franchises (Voracek) and are definitley better long term because of it. Or we could just stay same old same old |

vanek, staff, pommer, myers, hoff, and miller are paid very well to be the leaders of this team
the main reason why this team has missed the playoffs for the last 2 seasons, I am counting this as a miss, falls on their shoulders.
the 3rd/4th line costs you a few points here and there in the standings
and also wins you a few
the same can be said for the 5/6 d pairing
pommer and vanek, while they put up the stats have been so lazy weeks before Ruff was fired
staff has sucked all season up til today
miller is paid to be a top 5 goalie in the game and needs to focus like one on a nightly basis
myers, time to take the diaper off and look at the front of the jersey and not the bank account
hoff, time to step up and lead this pp
those are the 6 players most responsible for the success or lack of for this team for the 11-12 and 12-13 season, I think we can all agree on that
they got their wish and the coach got fired, yet once again it's the kids showing the effort and doing the little things needed to get the job done in the corners or in front of the net
when those 6 give their best for every shift/start, that is when the team will turn the corner
or should I say if they give their best

So, Miller makes that save, and youre not impressed? He "should have made that anyway". Bullpoop. RJ wouldve gone nuts had Miller stopped that.

Miller got outplayed by an average goalie in front of the home fans that pay good money to see their team perform their best

Perfect and maybe it could happen sooner with the right moves. - buffalo 1
I'm trying to project realistically bc all these young guys are gonna need to really round out their all around games (specifically defensively) before we'll be legit contenders IMO
For the future,
Ennis or Grigorenko will need to move to the wing
Bc we need at least 1 good 2way center on our top3 lines- whether it's someone like O'reilly who we bring in, or develop Girgensons into that role
Armia will be a 30+ goal scorer, but not right away
Catenacci prob needs a year or 2 in the AHL, but I like him as a scrappy guy that will be able to score 20 a year, and I think Foligno can also
What I don't wanna do is trade our "big3" for just picks & prospects bc then it'll take even longer
I want guys like O'reilly, E.Kane, etc... Who are young, but have shown they can play in this league
More "potential" brings with it too many ?s... And we have enough of that IMO....

All 3 of Buffalo's goals were weak.
Webers floater from the point. Staffords spin-o-rama rebound in the crease, and his flubber from the boards.
Miller got sniped through a screen, Leopold deflected it over him after Miller made the save, he got beat on a bad wrap around, and then Turris sniped him on a short side one timer on the PP.
Miller did not get outplayed whatsoever. Keep up the hate Homie. |

All those players are on the downside of their careers. For Miller he will be 33 or 34 heading into his next contract. Vanek will turn 31 during the first year of his next contract.
In Vanek's case, he has been severely overpaid for the majority of his previous contract. He is too inconsistent. He hasnt scored 40 goals in 5 years. He had 1 decent season 2 years ago with 32 goals and 72 points for a $7M/year player. I dont see him getting a contract that will pay him a cap hit of more than what he makes now. I see him getting a 7 year deal from another team that will pay him good money for the first 3-4 years, but tail off in the final 3-4 years to bring the cap hit down when hes nearing the end of his 30's.
Same thing with Miller. Will get paid in the first 2-3 years of the contract, but decreases so as to keep the cap hit lower on an aging goaltender. - theblueandgold
That's prob what SHOULD happen...
But we already saw Getzlaf get way overpaid IMO...
Perry is prob gonna get 9mil +
I realize these guys are younger, but look at the deal Richards got at 31 from the rangers...
This type of talent doesn't really get to free agency all that often
Bidding wars will get them all big $$$, long term deals IMO |

which goalie got the win?
it's a two way street
If you think it is ok for an "Elite" goalie to save 88% of the shots at home from the team that was 14th in the eastern conference in GPG (before today), florida is 15th, then have at it

Players like Getzlaf dont grow on trees. Tough center, plays in all situations, is a leader and puts up points. Very valuable player. Hard to replace that. He is a key player, not a complimentary player.
Perry will fetch more than Vanek because he was a MVP a few years ago, and hes a more natural goal scorer. |

This group clearly isn't working out the way they planned... Time to try a new direction

Vanek, Pommer & Miller are all great players,
But the way this team is constructed its just unrealistic to think we can bring in enough help, quickly enough and under the cap, to justify signing these guys to big $$$ extensions
Smart thing to do is trade these guys in the offseason when we can get top value in the form of young NHLers
We have a pretty nice group of young talent to add to
Do it right, and we become a playoff team again in 2 years, "contender" in 4...
And since we'd have a group of guys all entering their prime at roughly the same time, we should be able to be legit contenders for a good 5-7 years
That's how I'd do it anyways - jdfitz77
The biggest problem with the construction of this team is trading roy for ott and all of the other stupid offseason moves darcy made just to get
"tougher". |

Homie, while I agree with a lot o what you say, I'd argue that winning teams are good top to bottom. The scorers score, the hitters hit, the defenders and goalie keep the puck out of the net. This team has neither the talent nor the drive to be successful.
I agree, take the training wheels off Myers. Play him even more. 1st line powerplay and pk. Sending 25 down was ridiculous because he should be learning here playing for this awful 14th place team. Trade 3 and 24 now. Bring McNabb and Pardy up and even Pysyk.
Start getting better for tomorrow today. |

You're unreal. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to analyze the numbers of this game to decide who was the better goalie. Miller made better saves on Ottawa who had twice the amount of scoring opportunities, and he let in less bad goals.
He didnt lose this game because he played poorly, he lost this game because the team in front of him played poorly.
Put Bishop in Millers net, and Miller in Ottawas net for this game, and its not even going to OT.

what bothers the me the most is having a PP with 2 mins left in the game and not being able to even set it up. we got 1 chance on that pp and that was from a broken entry into the zone. |

He is a nice 2nd line winger for a team making a real run at the cup. BUT HE IS NOT A NHL CAPTAIN.
Captain's lead by example. Trade Pominville first and move this team in another direction.
BUT................ it can't be Darcy making these moves, bring in Dudley NOW. He will address the overall team needs with a vision.

Irish I'm with ya man I'd like Dudley or Burke in here ASAP. Also I think Pommer's value would be great on the market right now so yeah going forward I think he is the guy of the "big 3" we need to move to change the direction of this team. |

look at the performance of winning teams over the years and how consistent their top paid starting lineup is
does toews make lazy plays like vanek on a regular basis, or take stupid penalties like vanek?
does the twins in vancouver loaf around like pommer?
does james neal become invisible for months at a time like staff?
does PK avoind contact for the habs like myers?
how does the hoff stand up to kronwall on the pp?
